Game 6 in the '08 Finals is worse for Kobe than last night was for LeBron. LeBron has to win more rings for him to pass Kobe but Kobe has his shitty moments in the postseason too. Quitting on his team with only 2 shots in the 2nd half of game 7 against the Suns comes to mind. Right now I'd still rank Kobe over LeBron for their career and probably for one single game at their absolute best too but the latter is pretty tough to call.

I never thought it was a slam dunk that he was. I think people got blinded by his size, strength and so on. All the while Kobe pretty quietly ruled the league.

Look - it's not fair. I'll be the first to admit it. The dude is tremendous and is easily one of the greats of all-time.

But Jordan set the standard. His career was nearly perfect... and I don't mean perfect in that he shot 100% or never made mistakes. I mean his career couldn't have been written any better. He was, at that time, the best perimeter scorer ever early in his career, and he struggled to get past the Bad Boys for years. He then finally overcame them with a team that was BUILT. He then beat Magic, won two more titles, RETIRED, came back, was nearly as dominant with a different type of game, and won three more consecutive titles. The last two were done with two last second shots that defined the series. Oh, he also played with the flu and was basically carried off the court. He was also known for being some competitive that, had he been in a different profession, he would have likely needed counseling for mental problems.

Lebron is amazing, but to be the greatest ever, MJ has left no margin for error in terms of the story. Quitting on your team, not shooting enough, and hand picking your team may seem like little things, but they're not little things when you're in the shadow of MJ.

I know that but he just seemed to be far away on a lot of plays. Maybe it was just the Spurs made it seem that way?

MJ and Kobe would have gotten in Wade's face and challenged him if here were sucking. He probably would have knocked Chalmers out. LeBron just isn't that guy.

As I do not follow NBA I have this question to ask:
Does this finally stop the shit with Lebron being greater than Jordan?

Once again I think they should ask if he is better than Kobe.

So listening tonight to Rosey and Grote and they have Schuster on about basketball. Fine. So of course they talk to him about Lebron. We get the requisite Lebron is the best player on the planet. Can we stop that? Yes out of high school a weird size and strength for his position. Can we stop the "best" player on the planet? He probably isn't at least at this age and who the fuck searched the planet?

He probably is but it is an obnoxious way to phrase it. And I'm tired of these guys assertively, repetitively, shouting that when there's nobody denying it. It's just word filler and shows no type of original thought on the subject.

I truly don't understand this "Lebron wants a max deal" thing. It's not even a criticism as I understand that he has every right to be paid the most allowable. It just seems so strange that a guy as rich as him who makes so much money on and off the court would be so adamant that he gets that extra $2 million. It almost seems like it is him sending a message to Wade and Bosh.

It's just bizarre given what he did with the last contract.

It is bizarre and there are a lot of contradictory messages around.

Lebron wants max deal
Big 3 have agreement on coming back to Heat
Lebron wants help on the Heat roster

Not all of that can happen.

It can but Wade and Bosh will have to sacrifice.

I don't think their egos lets that happen.

They are going to watch Lebron get all his money while they take a cut?

I will be very surprised if that happens

Bosh contributes more than Wade.

If Lebron was smart and wanted to keep Miami going, they would jettison Wade.

And bring in Lance Stephenson.

Quote:
As Miami Heat president Pat Riley begins to pursue free agency at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday, LeBron James and his Big Three teammates plan to give the franchise a window to recruit a supporting cast and close deals with them, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Heat's free agents – James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade and Udonis Haslem – have the framework of deals in place to remain with Miami, arming Riley with his limitations within the salary cap to sign talent, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

"Everybody has their [contract] number and has left a little bit of room to let [Riley] maneuver," one source briefed on the contract discussions told Yahoo Sports.

Now, it is on Riley to replenish a roster that failed in a five-game NBA Finals loss to San Antonio. As Yahoo Sports reported on Saturday, James is pursuing a full max contract extension, beginning at $20.6 million – or something slightly below. Bosh and Wade will need to take pay cuts – Wade's significant – to create the cap space for Miami to be competitive in pursuit of free agent targets that include Kyle Lowry, Luol Deng, Marcin Gortat, Trevor Ariza and Marvin Williams.

Among top-level NBA executives and agents, there remains a strong belief that Miami will convince its key players to return on new deals. Within the suitors for James, there's an increased pessimism they'll never get a serious chance to engage James in free-agent meetings and presentations, sources told Yahoo Sports. His agent Rich Paul told teams he will accept their calls beginning after midnight on Tuesday, but there's no sense the formal meetings will be scheduled in the near future, sources said.

As one general manager told Yahoo Sports, "Right now, it's clear they're buying time for Riley to go out and hit the market."

Paul has avoided any communication with teams on James' free agency, abiding by loosely enforced NBA rules on holding free agent talks before the official start of the period at 12:01 a.m. ET Tuesday, league sources said. Cleveland undertook an investigation in 2010 on James' camp, charging tampering with James and league sources believe that's a significant reason why Paul has been so careful.
