Just thought it was weird that you were talking to the boss' mom. Does she work there too?

yeah, she's here pretty often , mostly does accounting work

it's a small-ish, family run company....i guess in context of working in general it might be weird.

So Frank is getting no communication and Newper is getting text messages?

how does that work

You can sign up for text messages on their website and they'll let you know when they first send crews out, then what estimate they have for your power being back on.

i can't handle that shit- i signed up w/ Amazon for text alerts at one point and had to cancel...they weren't sending spam texts , but i don't need to know the second my package gets loaded on a truck either.

I always see this as a big "work" (wrestling term.) You would think its obvious that cables strung from poles at treeline level would have issues with high winds, knocked down tree limbs. Forget the nonsense about "it's too expensive to bury cable," as you don't see your water pipes hanging off of poles! (And the water utilities do well, despite the outlay of burying the pipes.)

The thing of it is, each storm creates an opportunity to entail enormous expense getting crews out to make spot repairs. Naturally, they just restore what WAS, not actually fix the underlying problem...

But, having the potential for storms to create widespread damage means the utilities have to keep $xx in reserve at all times, for crews and material. And if they have to bring crews in from OH, even better still, with the lodging expenses and all like that. Why? Because you can't predict what the reserve "should" be. You *can* model the ongoing price of the actual electricity, but that reserve goes ka-flooey every time a batch of tornadoes pop up. (If this, and the fallacy of the "100-year storm" managing to occur for 3 years in a row doesn't strike you as the exact same nonsense as one-another... I don't know what to do to convince you otherwise. Statistics oftentimes lie.)

My latest com ed comparison report said I used 201% more electricity than my neighbors. And I'm thinking, what the fuck is wrong with my neighbors? Do they think it's going to be around forever? Use it while you can!

yeah, i'm sure they send out an equal number of notices telling you you're doing a great job conserving energy and don't even need to bother with any of these programs/initiatives we're trying to get you to do....
