Public relations for sure. He could clearly use someone who can work with the Bulls management to keep a professional relationship without personal feelings getting in the way. He also could use an adviser that would help him understand that if he wants to meet his goals that he has to be willing to work with the Bulls to get to them, and not have a story like this come out the day before the Bulls are trying to give you a very coveted asset to help.

I really don't think he needs advice on good public relations from Jerry Reinsdorf though. Jerry's own PR is so awesome the whole world thinks he's a cheap, dishonest prick even though there's a guy on a 50,000 watt clear channel station between 1 and 6 everyday telling the world how great he is.

How can he play well in the next week or so? The timing of what he has done the past few days makes him and his advisers huge hypocrites and may have actively kept Carmelo from coming here. I'm not sure that Carmelo is a perfect solution, but it's a better solution than anything else to the very issue that Reggie Rose so famously complained about.

He needs his own advisers, and not his unqualified brother, or BJ Armstrong who supposedly has deep hatred for the Bulls.

And I don't know why you keep on calling his brother unqualified. The only qualification for an adviser is to look out for the best interests of the person he is advising. I think Reggie Rose has done an admirable job of that to this point.

Bernstein loves just about anybody that is a rich,powerful Jewish guy in this town. If Reinsdorf's last name was Spinozi or Pulaski,Bernstein would hate him. He gets away with that shit,but North's "Rickles type" insults got him crucified!

I think most people would use an agent but consult with those closest to them.

Of course. I'm not saying that you should fire Reggie. There are people who spend their whole lives in the world of pro sports who have the experience and knowledge you just can't get otherwise. To not have one of those guys as the primary adviser is a poor decision.

If anything, that guy would keep a better relationship with the Bulls than Reggie has. That is important.

Imagine if all other things being equal, the general manager of the Blackhawks were Marty Bauman out of Brandeis rather than Stan Bowman out of Notre Dame, working under John Feldman instead of John McDonough. The Hawks would be the greatest team in the history of sports. We wouldn't be celebrating 2013 in quiet contemplation, that's for sure.

When you separate out everything you've heard exclusively (or first) on WSCR, what is left to keep him a douchebag? It has been a one-sided diatribe complete with secret sources, and supposed first-hand knowledge that few (if any) dare repeat.

Even if Rose were making his text messages known it wouldn't matter, there's always something to flip-flop about in the criticism.

Of all the "source said" nonsense the NBA off-season brings, the notion that Rose was surprised to see Anthony at the United Center is the one I'm most confident calling bullshit on.

I'm not surprised that he was surprised. I think that it is clear he didn't do any type of recruiting.

I'm as happy to crap on Rose as much as the next person, but even if wasn't enthusiastic about recruiting he knew it was happening. Honestly I suspect this rumor comes from the Melo camp since he's probably already decided to follow the money back to a shit situation in New York and rubbish like this will make him look more principled.

That's an interesting angle, but I also wonder if this is Rose and his camp trying to plant the seeds of an eventual divorce around the time when his contract his up. If true, this report demonstrates an unhealthy disconnect between the front office and Rose. I know management and Rose's team haven't gotten along, but this sort of petulance on the part of Rose speaks volumes about his perception of management and the overall big picture.

I've been indifferent about Rose's dumb recruiting stance. I thought it wouldn't matter. But if he truly ran into Melo this past week as opposed to planning to be there and help recruit, then I'm done with this dude. You've got better and more prominent players than him (since he's been gone for the better part of two years) like KD, Westbrook, Dirk, etc., taking the time out to help recruit guys to wherever they play, and now this dumbass exacerbates the already negative PR move of not recruiting by not refuting reports that his meeting with Melo was incidental as opposed to planned.

As far as I'm concerned the "aw shucks, look mom I guess we finally made it" Rose is dead to me. Get your ass back on the court and STFU. And if he wants to leave eventually, then leave. I'm good with that.

My other problem with this sudden break in the Rose story is that it appears it's going to let the dumb Bulls front office off the hook yet again. Rose's disinterest in recruiting played a far less significant role than what the Bulls could not offer. This front office let nearly every other free agent get snapped up around them in their pursuit of Anthony, gave up even more cap flexibility because of their hard-on for McDermott, and are now in pursuit of overpaying for a washed up big in the tradition of Ben Wallace and Carlos Boozer as a consolation "prize." Oh but Mirotic is finally coming, so this off-season is definitely a win for them in my book!

Does it let the Bulls off the hook? I doubt it. Carmelo is going back to the Knicks not necessarily for money (Bulls could have done a sign and trade) but for some weird unknown reason that has nothing to do with winning. If winning was a priority and he wanted to give the Phil Jackson plan a try he would have waited and opted out next season. It's possible that shoulder is bad and he's afraid of taking criticism back home for leaving.
