Source made a mistake. The #Athletics Alcantara, NOT the #Cubs one. SP Raul Alcantara is involved in the talks, not Arismendy.

Wow.....Mike, some of us Cub fans like Abreu. It's OK.

I have softened and would like to see Cubs win for some people that married into my family and Denisdman. However, all this flipping and deadline stuff is tiring sorry.

DEAL IS DONE: #Cubs send Samardzija and Hammel to #Athletics for Addison Russell, per sources. May be other players and team(s) involved.

No problem. For us....it's the exciting part of the year. I still wonder who is going to pitch next year. They can't hit on every dumpster dive pitcher.

What does this mean for Castro/Baez?

And maybe Hammel comes back as a FA signing?

I am just catching up on this now...I was going to rage if Arismendy Alcantara was included in anything besides David Price.

Russell may be on the move to a 3rd team and there's gotta be much more coming back. Russell is ranked the number 6 overall prospect in the game.

As long as they keep trading known MLB talent for unknown prospects, the plan is still in place.

Buh Bye Shark. Going to the team with the best run differential in the majors. Somehow I think you'll still be a.500 pitcher.

Hopefully they can re-sign Hammel. Shark just wanted to much cash.

Think the A's are going to give him 100 mill plus?

If Russell is indeed a premier talent, then yea, good trade given the trade chips they now have at their disposal...

Somehow, and call me pessimistic, the moneyball A's did not get fleeced by the Cubs.

Depends on how good you think Shark and Hammel were.

That makes nine. The metrics add up.

Easy to lose track because of Russell's reputation, but Billy McKinney is the A's #2 prospect right behind Russell. Straily = MLB arm #Cubs

Cardinals and Mets need a SS. Not sure who else.

If anyone here is a fan of trading Castro, then you're obviously a fan of yet again prolonging this organization rebuild...

Do you not want to compete until 2018?

Russell or Baez now becomes a possible trade chip to bring in a top of the line pitching prospect or MLB pitcher in the next year or so. Probably Russell, as he is believed to be a true SS. Baez can still play 2B or 3B for the Cubs, dependent upon Bryant's defensive improvements.

I don't think now is the time.

Option A: Castro SS, Baez 3B, Russell 2B, Alcantra CF, Bryant RF, Soler LF. Option B: Cubs make a trade.

Cubs also said to be getting Dan Straily, a 25-year-old right-hander who went 10-8 with a 3.96 ERA in 27 starts for the A's last season.
