Cubs also said to be getting Dan Straily, a 25-year-old right-hander who went 10-8 with a 3.96 ERA in 27 starts for the A's last season.

As long as they keep trading, the plan is still in place.

I like option A.

Still need pitching.

Plus Rizzo at 1B and Schwarber at C? 900 runs scored per season.

I wonder if Hendricks gets the callup then either Beeler or Wada?

Hendricks was the guy they got for Dempster and may be a keeper as a 3rd starter type.

Let's hope they can dump Barney too and get Alcantara up here.

From the Swinging A's blog 3 days ago:

"It’s probably clear enough that we won’t be getting David Price or Jeff Samardzija, top flight pitching costs top prospects and we’re not giving up Addison Russell for a rental player"

Whoops.

Only need 1 pitcher unless they keep Straily in AAA

We'll see soon enough. Shark was supposed to pitch tomorrow.

He's got balls turning down 90M or whatever.

Oh well.

I can now 100% root against Samardzija instead of half assing it like I have been since he played for my favorite team.

Fuck that guy. :D He has ugly hair.

While I am not a Shark fan, it's nice to see the A's go for it. Maybe they will win it this year.

Moneyball 2 will be in theaters in 2016.

Addison Russell will rank #6 overall on the upcoming #BPTop50. That would give the #Cubs the #3, #5, #6, and #18 best prospects in MiLB.

So do the Cubs trade for pitching or buy it this offseason?

I absolutely love this. Can't believe the cubs got this much value.

Already rumors of the Yankees targeting one of the SSs. I favor keeping Russell. And I don't know what the Yankees would be providing.

Did you want them to give Shark #1 starter money or let him go for nothing at the end of his deal?

That's wonderful, but when will see them on the Major League team?

When the time is right.

How highly a prospect is rated is not the order in which the prospects should be called up.

Is #18 now Alcantara?

Straily will be the Arrieta of this years trade deadline.

He is a major league ready arm that is going to be a real nice addition.

I really hope we don't have to wait until Sept 15/ April 16 to start seeing these guys. Some of them will fail and others will need awhile to adjust.

The Cubs just took two of the most sought after pitchers off the market. But they still have Villanueva, Jackson. Not done yet.

They'd have to eat 90% of Jackson's money not to mention Carlos "BP" Villanueva...

Russell is at least a year out. Coming off a torn hammy. He will be in AA the rest of the year I would imagine.

Now 3 votes. RT @JeffPassan Final housekeeping in A's-Cubs trade: There is indeed a PTBNL going along with Russell, McKinney and Straily

Haul seems light in comparison to Garza/Feldman. TheoCorp must think Russell is sure fire MLB player.

I'm guessing the A's flip a pitcher (Hammel?)for a 2B. Maybe Zobrist.

What do you base that on? That's a bold statement.

His season last year for the A's and the recent work he has done in the minors.

Quote:
Straily pitched extremely well, throwing 7 innings and striking out 9 batters while allowing just one run. His breaking pitches were working extremely well, getting a ton of swings and misses, including eight of his nine strikeouts. He probably still needs to show a bit more given how well the team is doing, but you can see what he can be if he is right.

I think it is widely accepted around the league that Addison Russell is a sure fire All-Star.

Straily had a 5 ERA this season before being sent down. Color me unimpressed, but we'll see.

Agreed about them viewing Russell as a big time stud. Also Shark got hit hard in June.

PTBNL coming too, McKinney was a 1st Rounder last year and Straily did win 10 games for the A's last year but clearly they must view Russell as a big time talent (which seems to be the consensus throughout baseball).

I like the trade. I think Shark is a turd. Getting the #3 prospect for a turd is great. I was just thinking some people will think the Cubs lost by only getting 4 players.
