Jerry Dipoto (GM LA Angels) is an ex player. Another REALLY. SMART. GUY.

That's due to lack of run support -- he ranks 137th of 138 qualified starters this year in runs per start, just 40 runs scored total in his 17 starts.

Very few pitchers can register a winning record given the above. We know Shark isn't exceptional but I wouldn't use wins to show that.

He's a loser over about 75 starts. The other guy is a loser over more than 100. Do you really think Beane traded a guy he actually thougt was Larkin for that?

Guaranteed Larkin? Of course not. Especially since they have a hole at SS and 2B. And if they were penciling him for 2015 what's really stopping him from doing it this year if they think they're WS contenders. JORR you'll see I've said this trade smells. Guys that are supposedly can't miss like Russell don't get exchanged for freaking Samardzija.

i don't know what Beanes' reasoning was but Im glad they're gone. If Shark goes 9-1 the rest of the way with a sub 3 ERA ill reconsider my thinking on him. I have a feeling that there'll be different excuses for him when its more like 6-4 3.75 1.6 WHIP though. Now he's playing in the tough AL West, DH, late west coast starts fucking with his body clock, etc.

I do think the Cubs got a lot for those guys. I just don't believe Beane really thinks he traded a future Hall of Famer.

Thinking back a few years ago I had given up on Shark. He was a terrible reliever who was just brutal and I was done with him and was waiting for him to be let go. The Cubs were obviously more patient than I and rightfully so and he became a pretty damn good starting pitcher. Not a pitcher I want to pay 100 mil to but a pretty damn good pitcher. To get the #1 and #2 prospects from the A's for him and a 1 year flip pitcher blows my mind.

The A's will be ok too because they will trade him this offseason for something and may get a ring along with it.

Yea pretty crazy how he's gone from rookie relieving sensation to garbage who I couldn't wait to get off the fucking team. Then promising starter to slight above starter who I couldn't wait to get off the fucking team.

Overall he and Jed have done quite well so far. Time will tell but I feel better about the plan now than at anytime I can remember.

What else is great is how Sox fans take any positive statement about Theo/Cubs and exaggerate it into more than what is said

Your reaction to his post in your signature is a good example of it.

The thing I have despised the most about the Cubs over the time I have followed them is having overpaid, old, dead ass, entitled veterans on the roster. That is no longer the case and for that I am happy.

I do not post on Sox threads because I do not care about them at all. Sox fans have a never ending fascination with the Cubs. Or jealousy. Probably because the White Sox are second fiddle in the Chicago baseball scene and always will be.

No, it's a good example of the irrational exuberance of Cub fans which suddenly becomes a "joke" when pointed out by Sox fans. And even if IMU really was kidding, was the tweet describing an entire homegrown lineup serious? Or was that a joke too?

This is so dumb I can never figure out why Cub fans say it. I guess it makes them feel better about pulling for a loser. Who could possibly be jealous of the most atrocious franchise in all of sports post WWII?

"Oh I was kidding! How did you not know that?!" is a classic CSFMB trope.

It was clearly a joke from the start. I am not sure what is so hard about that to understand.

There is no doubt irrational exuberance at times by Cub fans.

But you and others take anything that is said and exaggerate it into something that it is not.

Fan A: Theo made a good trade, I like that he is carrying out his plan.

Sox Fans: Oh you are an idiot Cub fan that thinks Theo is the only GM who has ever had a plan and who ever follows a plan.

The White Sox championship seems far away now does it not. They really have been a force since the rings were distributed. One lucky year where it all fell together. 1984 Cubs should have won it all too. Did not happen. Things fall apart. Sox had no plan after the championship was won. Cubs did not win then or in the Hendry disaster but they now have a plan to win in the near future and for many more years to come. I will take that and let the chips fall where they may.
