The results of the Eaton trade have been nothing short of brilliant.

His moves over the 1.5 years of being a GM has been pretty impressive

I'm willing to give him another year or two. This team has dealt with a ton of injuries to key players and still looks like a vastly improved club from last year. They should be decent next year with some better health.

Right. I wouldn't say it was tremendous. But the Abreu signing, Eaton trade, and Quintana extension made it overall an impressive offseason IMO.

Except that Theo has spent just about his entire tenure as Cubs President in last place, RFDC.

This. Going into 2013, he didn't have a whole lot to work with. The team was pretty well set and there wasn't going to be a big free agent signing. The moves he has made over the last year for the big league club and the minors have been very good.

Of course it's different. Eaton is playing major league baseball. And doing it fairly well. Beyond that, the guy they traded for him is 0-8. If he were striking out 200 times at AA and people were saying it was brilliant, then it would be the same thing.

It seems like every winning team has young pitchers, many times starters in the minors, contributing in the bullpen

That IS a brilliant move. That is not really open for debate, although you wanted to without even knowing who was traded in the deal.

Hahn essentially got a cost controlled starting CF for a guy who is looking like a AAAA level starter.

I think there is a little too much Eaton love around here.

He is hitting .269. He has an average OBP. He strikes out a little too much.

And on top of it his style of play makes him an injury waiting to happen.

There probably is. I'm not one of those over the top Eaton lovers, but you can't tell me he doesn't give the Sox lineup an entirely different (better) look when he is in there at the top of the order. He plays a very good CF.

And as dolphin mentioned, the guy they gave up for Eaton is 0-8 this year and has already been sent to the minors once. I think its pretty clear that the Sox are better with Eaton they would be with Santiago right now. And if the move makes your team better, its been a good one despite what Kirkwood may chime in with.

I think those are pretty good numbers for a plus fielding centerfielder. It's not 1998 anymore with second basemen slugging 45 homers at will. And he still has room to improve.

If Almora comes up and does the same exact things I will support him.
