Right.

I never predicted any injury. But nice try.

I think we all should be able to agree saying a player is "an injury waiting to happen" is predicting an injury.

I am pretty sure you and other Sox fans have said the same thing about Eaton's style of play.

So I guess you guys are predicting an injury for him as well.

Nothing to work with? Nothing? Seriously?
A perennial Cy Young candidate in Sale who is likely a top 5 pitcher in baseball.
A solid 3 with 2 upside in Quintana.
Peavy gave Hahn a hometown discount bc he appreciated what the Sox did for him. Had just completed a 200IP 3.37 ERA.
Above to average SS in Ramirez
Alex Rios in the OF.
Solid above average closer in Addison Reed.

Thats a SOLID foundation which he used to attain the 3rd worst record in baseball. Not much to work with?!?!?

FavreFan, I am being realistic. I never said frank was wrong about good moves. I said he's soooooo wrong that he somehow managed this with his hands tied. BULLSHIT. The cupboard wasn't bare. The Sox finished 3 games behind clinching the Central. He was given a contender.

Eaton should keep playing that way. He made that awesome catch (8th inning I think) yesterday. Play your heart out kind because I love watching you.

Hahn was handed a team that finished 3 games behind Detroit. A contender. Interesting how this is conveniently ignored.

I wasnt laughing at your prediction. I was laughing at the denial of it.

I think injury concerns with Eaton are justified, but often overblown as well.

Great, looks like we all agree:
1. Hahn WASN'T given a bare cupboard
2. Hahn DID take a contender to the 3rd worst record in baseball

The disagreement appears to be whether we should classify his tenure of taking a contender to 3rd worst in baseball to 5 games under as brilliant.

Please file my vote in the "not brilliant" ledger.

That's a terrible assessment. He was given an aging team taking one more shot at it and then cleaned house. Not unlike Theo did. But Hahn doesn't appear to be following that with 3 straight seasons of 95-100 losses. The injuries really hurt this team. If the team isn't decent next year you probably aren't going to find a ton of Hahn defenders.

I don't think Hahn "took" the contender anywhere. He left the contender alone. That was clearly a mistake in retrospect. But most fans seemed to think the Sox were a good team that choked down the stretch the previous season. That being the case, Hahn took a safe route in his first season at the helm.

Eh, not exactly

Having Peavy was a huge difference. And the no trade clauses. That killed them. If Dempster, Soriano, and Ramirez didnt have the No trade clauses then it would be a close comparison.

The Sox werent stocked, but they werent baron either

I love his off season moves. Unfortunately, the Sox lack the dollars to be big free agents players, and they don't have much in the farm system. He has a tough job ahead of him.

Hahn was given the Mel Tucker treatment. You can have the job, but you have to use these old shitty overpaid players.

Why does context matter? Context supposedly doesn't matter when assessing the Cubs. Just trying to be even-handed.

This better not be true this offseason or I'm taking another decade long sabbatical from the White Sox.

That's their problem this year. They're too Baron.

Brilliant...

What do they get for Santiago today if he were still on the Sox?

That IS a brilliant move. That is not really open for debate, although you wanted to without even knowing who was traded in the deal.

Hahn essentially got a cost controlled starting CF for a guy who is looking like a AAAA level starter.
Last year you touted Santiago as a great young LHS. I guess that was wrong.

Santiago's story is not done but it doesnt matter. You would pounce on any Cub fan calling any trade Brilliant. That's the point.

You're still trying to justify Cashner for Rizzo as a SD winner
The Cubs will have to trade at least one of their touted prospects to get a Cashner level starter. Everyone is woozy over the haul for Samardzija and deservedly so. No one seems to be looking at the buy side of that equation that the Cubs are going to be on if they are to be any good within the next three years.

The brilliance of Hahn is the evaluation of his own player and selling at obviously the height of his value. The only way he could be more brilliant is to now buy Santiago back for nothing and convert him into the top end relief pitcher he should be.

This. Going into 2013, he didn't have a whole lot to work with. The team was pretty well set and there wasn't going to be a big free agent signing. The moves he has made over the last year for the big league club and the minors have been very good.
Very very wrong. This is astoundingly wrong
Prove it.

Sale and Quintana extension, Abreu, Avi Garcia, Adam Eaton. All very good moves.

Conor Gillaspie for nothing

You mean a guy who cant stay healthy and has flashes of an ability to be slightly over .500?

You need to reevaluate your Cashner love. As has been said, if he wasnt on the other side of a Cubs move you would not be a fan.

Right now, Travis Wood is better than Cashner and its not even close. Arrieta looks to be as well.

They'll be able to sign Cashner for the league minimum pretty soon at this rate

So dolphin is going to ignore the other side of the fleecing where a cost-controlled Reed was exchanged for Davidson?

In two years you might be saying Hahn did the fleecing.

For all of the Cubs hope in the minors, you shouldn't even be mentioning Davidson.

Why do Cub fans think their young guy striking out a lot in AAA is better than anyone else's guy doing the same thing?

That can't really be. His stats are very similar to Javy Baez and Baez is playing in a notoriously favorable league for hitters. Baez is ordained. Davidson is not.
