Ironically all the YELLING and SPELLING. OUT. WORDS. and freaking out over Theo will cease if Theo succeeds and wins a World Series at which point it will be time for quiet reflection

If it means the Cubs winning, then fine. But, it's almost ridiculous the way Bernsie fawns over Theo.

I realize you may be biased, but do you really not remember many of those guys who are now dismissed like pieces of shit being discussed in the same terms as Bryant, Baez, and Russell are currently? One of the Cub "realists" compared Brett Jackson to Mike Trout, for God's sake!

Exaggeration. Jackson maybe. But, only Cubs touted like these guys recently would be Patterson, Pie, Prior, those types. I wasn't checking minor league updates daily on Brandon Guyer. Now, the Cubs have 3 guys like that and maybe 4 with Schwarber starting with 3.000 OPSs.

I would say Jackson, Vitters, Archer, McNutt, and Lee were all viewed as elite prospects by many Cub fans.

Let's not forget DONNIE VEAL who was being trotted out by one national baseball expert as the next big thing

For someone who likes to beat the drum of championships are the only thing that matters, Bernstein sure is getting awfully excited about a team having "one of the greatest farm systems ever".

Oh, and that they might spend a lot of money on guys in a few years.

I'm cracking up while listening. You can hear Dan flossing with Theo's ball hairs.

Archer is a real good MLB pitcher. Jackson was kind of touted. That's about it.

Vitters was questioned since day one because he was drafted high. I heard some good things about McNutt.

Simpson? Cmon

Remember when Cubs fans wouldn't trade Epstien for Mc Nutt? I believe he also was on the cover of the Sun Times once.

I shouldn't know the names of middling prospects, yet all of these mentioned are familiar names

There's a difference between elite prospects and promising. Jackson and Vitters were borderline elite but I don't think they were "can't miss" type guys.

I'd put Patterson, Pie, Prior, Bryant, Baez, and (from what I've read to this point of Russell) Russell as "can't miss"-level prospects. Cubs have had 1 or 2 of those types per decade at best. Now they have 3, possibly 4, plus Alcantara (who should be considered prime prospect) at once. You can be optimistic that things work out in better fashion now than when all the eggs are in Corey Patterson's basket.

No, the correct answer is

They will all be busts and if one isnt, the Cubs will find some way to fuck him up, because the Cubs are the Cubs. You should quit following them.

That is the only correct answer.

Now THAT is a realist perspective

Even the guys at Baseball America and Prospectus said the way they scouted has changed. They admitted that guys like Pie and Patterson were too "toolsy" and wouldn't be ranked as high in their new scouting.

I could have been an A student if I only had the answers in front of me for every test.

This is a fun argument. However, I'm on vacation this week and, unlike Baby McNown, I don't plan to spend much of it here. Taking the kids to see Godzilla (the real one on my island, not the movie) in a few minutes.

Carry on the good fight, Cub Realists! I look forward to reading it on the beach later this week.

Trading any player for a GM is dumb.

You know the names because you are interested in Cubs baseball and Cubs fans

So, just so were clear, I posted the Realist vs Optimists and it was 85/15 in favor of realists.

There has been no valid argument against any names on my list.

Like Ive said for years, its a small percentage of Cub fans that some people like to apply to the whole base. Stereotyping at its most basic level.

Who are these people unable to understand what Theo is doing? Toddlers, dementia patients, and the institutionally committed? What insufferable ball-washing that "column" was.

He should be embarrassed by that leading question to Len. Are they the best farm system in history. Len almost spit his coffee then politely continued. What a hand job.

I get the feeling if you asked Dan, "How come Theo didnt become a brain surgeon?"

The response would be RIGHT?!?!?!

It's pathetic. Normal people idolize the players, not the goddamn executives. It's like Dan wants sports to go from enjoying the performances of the athletes to the appreciation of watching decisions being made by people in suits.
