For all of the Cubs hope in the minors, you shouldn't even be mentioning Davidson.

Why do Cub fans think their young guy striking out a lot in AAA is better than anyone else's guy doing the same thing?

Probably the other stats.

That can't really be. His stats are very similar to Javy Baez and Baez is playing in a notoriously favorable league for hitters. Baez is ordained. Davidson is not.

Very similar?

Their OPS is about is about 80 points apart.

And Davidson didnt hit 37 homeruns last year. That counts when talking about minor leaguers.

You act like these things come out of thin air. Baez was a monster in the minors last year and people got excited. Its a perfectly normal reaction.

His early season struggles this year have been acknowledged many many times by Cub fans on this board.

Well Davidson is 23 in his 2nd AAA campaign hitting .201. Thats a weeeeeeee bit different than a 21 year-old hitting .241. I will not waste time posting all the other significantly better statistics.

It's a very small sample. And why doesn't the fact that Davidson has more homers in a league dominated by pitching than Baez does in the PCL matter?

It's about five balls sneaking through the infield. And you're not really going to quibble over two years in age with one of the guys being from Puerto Rico, are you? There's no way I don't think Jose Abreu isn't in his 30s either. But it doesn't matter. It's a bernsteinesque thing to talk about like arguing that a center is 6'11" instead of 6'10".

I didnt say that didnt matter.

But again, the Baez love comes from publications like Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus and you're applying it to Cub fans.

But that's where Cub fans are getting their ideas and spitting them back out. How many guys here have seen Baez play any significant amount? Do we not believe in scouting the numbers suddenly? I guess that only matters when we want it to.

The numbers are better than Davidson's. The comments on his attributes are better. I will take a giant leap in saying Cubs fans are not being crazy in saying he's better. Also many saw Russell as insurance against Baez. So yes the worries existed as well.

You aren't as over the top as a lot of Cubs fans are. Have you seen IMU's posts over the last week?

Jim in Evergreen Park called M&H today to fawn all over Theo for the deals he made this weekend, then said he would be very upset if the Sox had 2 all stars while the Cubs only had 2.

The numbers are actually very similar. They're both power hitters who strike out a lot. I don't know how you could predict one guy is going to be better than the other. Baez is a bad fielder at a premium position. Davidson is a bad fielder at third.

A Cub fan insisting Baez is better. Not Baseball America or Baseball Prospectus. PAGING RPB!!! Take him off your realist list!

One is 21 the other is 23. One is in his first AAA the other in his 2nd. I'm being rational here. Geez, chill out from being a prick.

My first comment after the Russell trade was he was Baez insurance. Other than saying I expect all of these prospects to fail I have no idea what you don't consider Cubbie pie-in-the-sky thinking.

Even if we accept that Baez is his age as listed, what difference does that make? I don't expect either guy to be with his current team when they are 30.

Baez is in his 4th season. Davidson in his 6th. Baez his 1st exposure to AAA and Davidson his 2nd. Baez has superior overall hitting profile. Baez has questions at a tougher position at SS versus Davdson at 3rd.

Baez still is terrifying as he's has such boom or bust potential. But it's not Cubbie optimism to say he's better than Davidson.

I actually like Soler more than Baez. I'm just not a fan of boom/bust hitters that strike out a ton. He's made adjustments to improve since his awful spring but his approach still more is needed by me. MLB pitchers will feast on his aggressiveness.

Oh, you mean the fleecing by taking a closer with a career 4 ERA going into his arbitration years, who is once again giving up runs at an uncomfortable rate?

That isn't a fleecing...and Davidson is coming around nicely.

I'm saying you don't know shit about Baez. Somebody told you he was supposed to be good and you parrot it like a fool.

Not if you look like or are as unfit as the mayor of Hanover Park. Otherwise, yes, I'd bet on you.

Every analyst thinks Baez is better. He included that in his post

So now thinking a guy s better than anyone else is crazy optimism?

Stick to the legit ones like Dennisd and 8675Theo-9

Where does dennis becoming a crazy homer fan come from? I've talked plenty of baseball with him...he isn't like that at all.

What gives?

Compared what Cubs are doing to Braves run and pretty much guaranteed it will result in a Braves like run

Its definitely an optimistic view. That's all were talking about. Not dumb

Well...that might be at or near 'best case scenario' but is it outlandish? I guess any guarantee is outlandish.

But it makes more sense than Brett Jackson and Mike Trout comparisons so...there's that! :)
