After he washed out with the Cubs, he ended up with a nice long career.

Pagel never got a chance to play in the majors. Wonder what the story was there? Probably broke one of the unwritten rules.

No, I am most certainly not.

The numbers DO support it

Baez was way better than Davidson last year and has a history of slow starts and strong finishes.

What???? One guy was in A and AA and the other guy was in AAA and the majors. They're both in AAA right now and their numbers are similar considering Baez is in a notoriously great league for hitters. BP pissed all over Davidson's more than respectable numbers in that same league last season because of that fact.

Davidson's numbers this season, no matter what league he is in, is complete dogshit.

Baez got off to a slow start and is still putting up way better (80 points in OPS) numbers

Davidson is on his second year in AAA and is still behind Baez. And Baez is about to pass his numbers from last year. Then the PCL thing will be gone. What then?

Scouts also say Baez has the best bat speed since Gary Sheffield. Are we counting what scouts say in this thread? Or should I ignore that?

If we looked up all the #4 ranked guys in BA history and then all the 72nd ranked guys, which list would be better do you think?

Wow....now it's Baez vs Davidson.

Pie was a bust.

That is a bust.

Maybe your worst thought ever on this board, and you've built up quite the resume.

If he thinks Pie was good, I have a great entertainment center to sell him.

His career was disappointing, but wasn't Patterson an MVP candidate for like half a year?

I guess it depends on who did the ranking.

Eh, not really MVP. He was an all star in the first half of 03

But he was a useful major leaguer, just not near what he was supposed to be.

I don't think pie even got to a point of starting every day over a long time like Patterson did. Didn't pie get traded once then sort of disappear afterwards?

I still don't know if his name was pronounced pie in the American way or P-eh in the Spanish way. He just wasn't around enough for me to notice.

I would guess the #4s would be better overall, but there probably isn't quite the disparity you seem to think. I know Ian Stewart was ranked #3 or #4 and Torii Hunter was ranked in the 70s. It doesn't really mean a whole lot.

...because he wasn't good. Turning from a prospect to a solid major league requires the ability to make adjustments. Felix Pie did not make adjustments.

Yeah, you are correct ...I was thinking Angel Pagan...not Pie.

My point is what happens if Theo's Army produces only 2 solid Major Leaguers out of 10 prospects?
What's he going to say? "I'm sorry for burning 3-5 seasons off the charts for 2 guys?"

This whole throwing away entire baseball seasons for a higher draft spot is insane. Because if ,more probably "when" most of these guys don't pan out,the Cubs will be looking at the Free agent market anyway.

Pagan has been decent, but wasn't a Cubs farmhand. The Cubs had him via a Rule 5 Draft from the Mets.

one of the most touted and most disappointing prospects i can remember is Gary Scott. wasn't he supposed to lock down third base for the foreseeable future? he turned out to be lousy, and he was a highly thought of prospect.

It seemed like almost every time I caught a Mets game he was hitting a triple.

Come on JORR. He was a 1st round pick, but number 20, not top 5, and he was NEVER considered the next Babe Ruth!

What's cool about this guy (and he was in fact a bust) was the Cubs traded him for one of my all time favorite Cubs, Cliff Johnson. That SOB had some big time power and didn't take any shit. He was an enforcer for Billy Martin on those Yankee teams.

Helluva pinch hitter too!
