My goodness, are you a drama queen.

Give me some examples of me "following you around constantly these days". The search function works, so this should be an easy task.

Put up, or shut up.

Terrible.

I just look backed at all of my 250 posts over the last 9 days, and only two were in response to you. One was making fun of Bernstein turning on fastballs, and this one, which was clearly a joke.

With a swing and miss like this, it's no wonder you are looking for some batting cages. Gotta stay sharp.

He was the best at dunking tennis balls, as well, before the reconstructive knee surgery. Did he ever tell you about the time he had his knee done?

That's actually a bigger lie than the "95 mph fastball" thing.

He may have hit a legit fastball once or twice (no way it was 95 though) - but there ain't NO WAY that dude has ever dunked anything on a 10 ft rim. No way.

I know a few guys who were heavy in the Mell organization at one time. They actually thought Rod was going to be president. My God! He was like last in his class at Foreman High School. And people make fun of Phillips and Yale grad, George W. One guy told me that Blago had "presidential hair".

Years ago, a friend of mine who was a producer at Fox told me that Rod had been chasing women all over Washington. Everyone knew it, including his wife and her dad (Dick Mel). Dick told Rod that if he came back here and stopped cheating on his daughter that he'd make him governor. Of course I don't know if that's 100% true, but that's apparently the story that was going around at the time.

I could completely believe that. At least in part. Mell wanted to be the kingmaker to satisfy his own ego anyway. Rod was just his tool. Or at least that's what he thought at the time. But Rod really is like Fredo. Chris Kelly got in his ear and convinced Rod he could handle things, he was smart. Really all he did was replace Mell as the guy pulling Rod's strings.

The Mell organization was big and strong. Those guys could get out the vote. It was old school street level politics. Sure, it's dirty in its own way. But Kelly and his crew raised the cash by trading favors. And they did it in an arrogant way. Hell, even Bill Cellini was appalled by the brazen way they demanded the money. That just isn't how it's done.

Dick just wanted to make sure that there were plenty of women left for his other daughter to chase all over Washington.

I think the problem begins that Patti was a very awkward teen and young adult. Her father was desperately trying to set her up with someone he could trust to carry on his legacy. She must have been a real basket case because smarter, much more well funded sons of friends balked. Then greasy Bohunk Rod stepped into the picture. She thought he was great, he knew she was the key to his ambitions and Mell was appreciative to get his daughter married to a guy who was presentable. Word was Blago was sniffing around Deb Mell first but when rebuffed for obvious reasons, set his sights on easier prey.

Rod is pretty much a dullard. I have heard that far too many times from people who worked with him when he had to work for a living. However, pure ambition can carry you pretty far in this world. He could have probably stayed a State's Attorney for life and eventually ascended to the top spot. He could have been a congressman, and probably a powerful one eventually, for life. He probably could have even been governor for a couple of decades. He wanted the presidency from the get go. The only way to do that was to raise money and he was doing it at such a remarkable pace that it was obvious something was up.

As far as cheating, that would not surprise me. I think Mell is one of these old school guys from the Daley I era who consider cheating on your family to be worse than graft or murder. I don't think he knew. Anyway, if that was the deal it didn't stop once he got back to Springfield. The rumor was that he was one of several who was nailing a blonde, ambitious former NBC reporter turned radio host known for trading her wares in exchange for access.

The thing you have to know about Springfield is that it is basically a Roman orgy for everyone but the most disciplined. Sex is definitely a currency. Heavy drinking is rampant. It is pretty much a place where people with big egos and no brains are sent to work one hour days with the rest of the idle time being the devil's playground

That said, the US Attorneys office is filled with people who have no real sense of justice. You have heard far too many instances in the last couple of years of offices across the country being censured for ethically contestable dealings despite the inherent advantages of their positions. Blago did bad but he got far more than what was coming to him..

A while ago, I watched a video of some roundtable the Reader did with Dick Mell and Ben Joravsky where Mell told the story about how he and his organization put kids through college by giving them do-nothing jobs as bridge operators in the middle of the night. He was really proud of what he did, even though it was brazen abuse of public money. But I have to be honest, I'd take some bullshit sinecure like that, no questions asked.

Well, that's how the whole thing works. How outrageous can it be when everyone has family members or friends that are participating? That's what makes him able to go on TV and say a thing like that proudly when in a different place it would be a reason for him to be indicted or impeached.

As far as the 14 year sentence is concerned, it's really ridiculous given the context and the crimes. If your name is Daley you break more laws before breakfast than dumbass Rod did in his whole life. There was a whole lot of grandstanding by Pat Fitzgerald in this case. They really tried to throw a fuckjob at his brother Rob who is a fucking Boy Scout.

My partner's ex-girlfriend's dad is a heavy criminal defense guy who represented the brother. The feds had nothing on him and they just busted him financially to try to get at Rod. After the feds dropped the case they had a big party. My partner was invited. For those of you who have met him, the idea of him hobnobbing with these high=priced sttorneys and politicians should be worth a few chuckles.

Criminal defense typically only gets really expensive if the case goes to trial. Many criminal defense lawyers quote a flat-fee to handle criminal defense cases up to the jury/bench trial stage.

Doesn't cost much to have a mouthpiece say "No" over and over to the prosecution and turn over some phone and bank records. Image

When you're talking about these high profile guys, they're getting paid. The guy I'm talking about sends his fucking bill. Hell, the Adam boys refused to work the appeal because there was no money left. So now he's got Trust Fund Pete working it probably for free.
