Father of the Year is reporting $10.8MM each for Toews and Kane. Penguins West starting in 2015-16.

I can tell you don't read sinicalypse's posts!

Kaplan. I suppose he'd have an inside track via the Blackhawks/WGN relationship, the WGN relationship that hasn't been poisoned.

It's a lot of money. No question.
I suppose you'd rather have the other option?
Of course not.

No, of course not. It just means the pressure is higher than ever to draft/develop, because two players are going to account for almost a third of the cap.

You have to admit that it's crazy that the highest-paid hockey player in the world has never even scored 80 points in a season. Good thing he's the captainiest captain who ever captained, I guess. You'd think that by now, the difference between nine million dollars and eleven million dollars would mean more to the team than it would to the players, but union leaders don't take pay cuts. That's fine. That's his right. Just means he'll be the captain of a really sucky team for at least a year. Hjalmarsson articulated that he had enough money and wanted to win. What a good socialist Swede.

Jamie Kompon is now head coach of the major-junior Portland Winterhawks, replacing Mike Johnston, who left to coach the Penguins. Bye and stuff.

2010 draft pick Kevin Hayes (little brother of the guy who always fell on his ass) isn't coming to prospect camp. If the Hawks don't sign him, they'll get a bonus pick in the second round, #54 in this case.

Kane and Toews have agreed to 8 yr extensions.

I could not find any info on the exact amount per year of the contracts.

Quote:
The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane on eight-year contract extensions, which run through the 2022-23 National Hockey League season. A formal press conference will be held at the United Center next week, with day and time being announced at a later date.

Both will make less per year than Edwin Jackson.

$10.5MM each. But we should be happy they didn't take 12!

The highest-paid hockey player in the world has never had a 35-goal season in his NHL career. Are we good with this?

How can the Hawks afford this when they lose so much money?

Now all Bowman has to do is ship Sharp to the Jets for Evander Kane and there can be a 2 Kane line for the next 5 years. I think he makes a few hundred k more per year but they can figure that out...

You'd rather have Ovechkin? He scored way more than 35 many times.

Tell you what - you take O, I'll take these two over-priced dopes that the Hawks just signed.

2010-2011 Salary Cap: $59.4 million. The 1st year of new contracts and worst cap consumption Toews & Kane consumed 10.9% each
2015-2016 Salary Cap: $96.95 million. What the salary cap would need to rise next year to have these two consume 10.9% each.

We're so fucked after this year.

It's a lot of money. They earned every penny, but they've destroyed their team.

They'll never get out of the first round this past year.

Presuming a ceiling around $74MM for 2016, two players will take up nearly one-third of the cap. That's not even getting into Keith, Hossa, Seabrook. Sharp, and Crawford, some of whom will clearly have to go after this year.

Look at how little money Getzlaf and Perry took on their contracts in comparison, and Getzlaf is quite possibly a better individual player than Toews. Players take discounts to play in Anaheim, but not Chicago.

They've essentially closed our window for the first 3 years of their contracts.

Over at the Committed Indian, Sam Fels is more concerned with the Hawks firing Josh Mora five years ago.

The Corey Crawford contract looks really stupid now. How the hell are we going to move him?
Even worse, how did Bowman misjudge Bickell so badly? Four million for a lazy fat fuck who admitted he doesn't try in the regular season.

Well, the run was nice while it lasted.

.961 pts/gm to .910 for Toews, often with infamously inferior supporting casts.

Again, I told everyone that there was no way a union leader like Toews wouldn't gouge the Blackhawks for every dollar he could get. We don't get hometown discounts.

I'll take Toews over Getzlaf 7 days a week and feel pretty good about it.

So would at least 29 NHL teams, publicly

It's weird, I'm both happy and unhappy at the same time.

So who's gone? They can maybe trade Hjalmarsson and I'll probably never get to put my boob on Sharp again. I agree that this makes the Crawford signing a little worse. I still don't understand how the Hossa contract works and never will.

Glad to hear about Kompon, I'd like to see Mike Kitchen leave too.

I don't think that the captain on 2 stanley cup finals team is "gouging " anyone.

Good, now I don't have to worry about him lighting up my over 40 team at Johnny's for 5 goals a game. All I have to worry about is not getting shot in the parking garage.
