No surprise, me and some friends predicted only half jokingly that this would happen.

Biggest assholes in the world own and manage that rink. Same assholes who suspended me for 9 months for cracking a joke in the locker room at the expense of one of the guys working there.

They're notorious for mistreating their customers. A perfect example of why monopolies are banned in this country. Johnny's has a monopoly on adult hockey in Chicago, they are the only rink in the city limits that offers it (McFedtrige offers one league and its a very low level of competition) and they have a waiting list of nearly 100 teams wanting to get in. As a result they treat their customers like shit and constantly kick players out who complain about anything as well as threatening to kick out teams for any little idiotic reason. One of our captains emailed the manager and asked when one of our players would have his supension lifted and the manager responded by calling our captain and asshole and threatening to kick the whole team out.

I know the guy who got robbed, really nice guy who has never gotten in any trouble there before.

yea, he made the mistake of emailing management and asking what if anything they were going to do to improve security.

The place is a joke. Its in a terrible neighborhood (3 blocks west of Western on Madison), they have no security and they don't even lock the front door. Men's league games are late at night and its not uncommon to find yourself all alone in the parking garage or entrance. They've had lots of incidents already with the locals coming in and stealing stuff as well as robberies just outside the building, but this is the first time it happened inside the building.

Can't think of another business in Chicago that's in a bad neighborhood that doesn't have at least minimal security measures.

You might be on to something. Maybe he and some of the 100 teams on the waitlist could go somewhere else. Ridgeland Commons has updated their facility too. It's not like ice rinks won't take money, they will work with you.

I'm surprised the Blackhawks don't build their own facility with public ice that can be rented if the market is as good as you say.

You think they should move out of the United Center? That won't happen, but I think a private facility with public access (the Sharks have this) is inevitable as Reinsdorf/Wirtz keep trying to build up the area.
