Am I wrong to be amazed that a Professional Hockey team doesn't have their own practice facility?

Many don't. The Bruins are only now building their own practice center. The Sabres are building one right now as part of a greater downtown revitalization project -- again, it'll be some sort of mixed-use facility for public use and maybe even NatDev teams if they're lucky. The Jets built their own facility on the outskirts of Winnipeg; I doubt the Thrashers ever had a practice rink of their own.

Wow, I didn't know that.

Welcome to the iceZone, the official practice facility of the St. Louis Blues. The iceZone is located inside the St. Louis Outlet Mall in Hazelwood, Missouri and serves as much more than a NHL practice facility.

Their website says it is "Where The Pro's Skate!", demonstrating all the understanding of English punctuation that I expect from St. Louis.

They announced a few months back that they were looking to build their own adjacent to the UC.

They are really expensive to build and maintain and the revenue stream for times of year and daytime hours are limited. Some lose money or have a tough time.

yea, he made the mistake of emailing management and asking what if anything they were going to do to improve security.

The place is a joke. Its in a terrible neighborhood (3 blocks west of Western on Madison), they have no security and they don't even lock the front door. Men's league games are late at night and its not uncommon to find yourself all alone in the parking garage or entrance. They've had lots of incidents already with the locals coming in and stealing stuff as well as robberies just outside the building, but this is the first time it happened inside the building.

Can't think of another business in Chicago that's in a bad neighborhood that doesn't have at least minimal security measures.

Any iphones taken? I wonder if this happened to say Patrick Sharp after a morning skate if this fuckbag ownwer would send the same letter to Wirtz.

I'm going to bet NO.

The owner must know that he is the place to go becuase the hockey players can say, " I play where the Hawks practice at."

No one plays at Johnny's because of the Blackhawks affiliation. they play there because there is literally no where else to play in Chicago. Johnny's had a huge wait list way before the Blackhawks ever showed up. Besides, by the time the first adult player walks into the building the Hawks have been gone for 7 hours. I've never seen a Hawks employee in the building.

With the Edge being a stones throw from O'Hare, why are they not an option?

All part of a pretty big expansion, which is part of THE BULLS PLAN

That's not close to Chicago. There are several rinks closer to the city than the Edge, but they still aren't IN the city where 90% of the players live.

On top of that, the only league at the Edge is Hockey North America which is for novice players.

Closest rink to the city heading north are Skokie and Heartland. Heartland has one adult league which is for beginners. Skokie has a rec league for beginners and an over 30 league which I play in.

Heading south I have no idea. Heading west you would have the Edge and Park Ridge which I don't think has a league.

Either way, people who live in the city don't want to go to the suburbs to play when they can go 5-10 minutes up the road to JIH.

Yeah, Crest don't you know anything. Shakes is taking his talents to the NHL next season.

Shakes, I tend to believe you on the hockey affiliation. Made me question the latest committed indian post:

http://thecommittedindian.com/strange-set-priorities/

Most rink owners are douchebags. I played more roller than ice, but I've had one owner who played in every league and would pick up guys by paying them to play on his team. He basically just ran the place so that he could win leagues. Don't even get me started on the guy running The Rink in Merrillville.

So Krazy Ivan aside, all the hockey layers fighting traffic on the Kennedy and the Edens to get to JIH couldn't get to Park Ridge or Skokie easier?

I don't remember Edge being all that great/accommodating, but its been a while. Glenview was a great rink back in the day. Franklin Park is decent.

Like I said, most players at Johnnys already live IN the city, not much traffic to fight when you are 5-10 minutes away.

They must live east of Western Ave

I was happy to see the long awaited Pete's Produce finally opened on Madison and Western a few weeks ago.
