Steve Stone was FAR WRONG

But because nobody made this EXACT prediction on Rizzo, Steve Stone wasnt really that wrong?

Even though the PECOTA Prediction on Rizzo was the single biggest improvement of any player in MLB. I think that is a really good prediction so far.

no more exciting play in baseball than a power hitter walking with a man on base

Yup, those foolish walks.

PECOTA predicted improvement but they did not predict this type of improvement. That is the point. That is the only point. Don't make it into more than it is.

The reason Steve Stone is wrong is because Rizzo has made a nearly unpredictable jump. It's getting to the point where there is only one position player in all of baseball that is FAR SUPERIOR to Rizzo. Even PECOTA missed that.

Rizzo was the player they predicted for the single biggest improvement. While the numbers he might attain may exceed the exact numbers they predicted, the simple fact they said he would be the most improved player statswise, is one of the most impressive predictions.

Much better than Steve Stone has ever made.

This is true.

It's clear you don't have a desire to understand my point though.

This is true.

It's clear you don't have a desire to understand my point though.

I understand your point, however, what you dont realize is how low Pecota almost always places projections on guys. After looking at it for years, I would guess they project about 10% of the players to have better years than the previous and the overall projections are always low.

Your point is that Rizzo exceeded all expectations, thus Stone was wrong, but so were others or as you say "NOBODY" or "VERY FEW" made this call.

I will at least say that I didnt think one would be FAR SUPERIOR than the other. Thus the thread.

I based my thoughts on PECOTA and watching Rizzo AB's during the spring.

Stone saw the guy take one AB and projected his entire career.

If we take Rizzo out of it completely though, Stone was pretty spot on in regards to Abreu.

Hot damn this is a fun little comparison.

Remember a couple months ago when Terry Boers thought Abreu wouldn't hit 30 homeruns? How could anyone who knows anything about baseball have such a dumb opinion? He might hit 30 before the All-Star Break.

Terry's baseball predictions are usually ridiculous. Like when he thought Prior would win 28 games in 2004. That was before li'l danny realized "wins are meaningless and out of a pitcher's control" or dan was so excited about the "team with no weaknesses" that he didn't even argue with Terry about it.

Latest prediction: Cubs win World Series in 2017. It's a mortal lock.

Hey Jorr.... 26 to go and we win.

You win nothing. Just remember this the next time you want to rip a Cub fan for being optimisitic.

You both agreed a guy with 0 homeruns in MLB would accidentally hit 30

Abreu is awesome though

Sox fans should be upset with Joe's pessimism

His basketball predictions are almost always wrong, too, especially when it comes to projecting how college players will fare in the NBA. The fact that he likes McDermott should strike fear into your heart.

No, its fact. You look silly all across this thread;

Yeah...and considering Abreu's recent trend...he may prefer that the season ends before he reaches an .OPS below .650

So basically, you were taking every remote chance you could to knock Abreu, who has put up nothing short of MVP type number almost since opening day. Just like dolphin has done with Rizzo.

.265 and 25HR is hardly a knock. Those are good numbers for a rookie.

Also... time stamp those posts.

Terry has a history of making optimistic projections about how white college basketball players will perform in the NBA. He hasn't been right yet.
