Interesting reaction. Why are you so excited? He's more likely to be Luke Hochevar than Jason Verlander.

Wrong. Pitchers taken in the top 5 overall never bust out.

61% chance of him being Seaver!

Can you have some sort of identifier if you are doing a bad parody of Sox fans or if you want to have an actual discussion because you keep on jumping back and forth?

I think much of the Rondo love comes from how excited Cubs fans were to get him.

Is Jason Verlander better than Justin Verlander?

I hope the Sox develop him into a front line starter in order to trade him for more minor league talent

I've liked him since '08. Not sure if I've mentioned that before.

I hope they keep him for more than 5 years, because the Sox are going to be horrible for the next 5 years.

For the sake of argument say he comes up to start next year. Would you not go into a season Sale, Quintana, Danks, Rodon and ?

Not yet. He'll probably need a few starts to develop.

So you don't think the Sox will be competitive the next 5 years?

Is .500 competitive? Sure. Will they make the playoffs. Hell no.

This will be remembered.

They have Sale, Quintana, and Abreu all on very team friendly deals for the next five years. There's almost no chance they don't make the playoffs. Hahn and then the next guy would have to fuck up really bad. The Sox have a pretty bright future.

Be careful with that thinking.

How many times did they make the playoffs with Frank, Black Jack, and Alex ?

I thought in Chicago you can be infinitely optimistic?

You really think they won't make the playoffs in the next five years? I'd be pretty damn surprised.

I think there is a good chance they will.

But I also thought back during Big Franks time they would make the playoffs way more than they did.

Strange things happen in baseball.

With Ventura as manager I'm confident in the Sox continued bumbling. Plus you add Hahn who took a team 3 games short of the Tigers to last place. I'm good.

Of course. That's why I'm not predicting sustained dominance or anything. I just think it's simply not objective to look at this Sox team and say they won't make the playoffs for the next five years. We were just pointing out a silly/trolling prediction.

Robins a bad manager and I fear he's not going anywhere. Still, that's not costing them many games at all. Hahn's done a decent job so far in rebuilding an aging team with only one terrible season. They have a great 1/2 starting combo and the home run hitter in baseball all on way below market rate long term contracts. This is why you can't be on the realist list.

Or you can look at the Sox and ask where catcher, 3b, SS, 2b, dh, rf and lf for the next 5 years are coming from? That's a lot of questions for a guy (Hahn) who thought signing Jeff keppinger was a wise decision.

3B looks fine. Not sure what the concern is there.

Alexei is still a good SS. Im not concerned with that. Hopefully a prospect comes up and takes his spot and does well.

Garcia and Eaton will probably be really solid. It's not hard to add another fielder and DH in FA.

Not saying the Sox are the 90's Yankees or have all stars all over the field. But they have arguably the best pitcher and slugger in baseball and some other solid parts to build around. Notice how I don't overly hype Rodon or anyone else coming up. They probably aren't going to make the playoffs more than 3 times in the next six years. That's ok. I don't think many teams will. They have pieces in place to be competitive and there's a reason to be optimistic about the future, even from an objective standpoint.

Gotta think Alexei maybe gone after trade deadline.

That seems to be the popular opinion. I wouldn't like to see him go unless it's a really good deal.

Where is this certainty in Garcia coming from? He's an unproven prospect. Is it wise to assume a career .265 hitter will consistently hit .300 at 3rd? A lot of HUGE assumptions made.

Why are you talking about career hitting after 1.5 seasons? You sound ridiculous. What about Gillaspie's .837 OPS is so terrible right now. And Davidson might suck, but he also might turn out to be really good. I like the chances of one of them, probably Gillaspie, being a solid starter for awhile.

Edit:And nobody is certain about Garcia. That's why I said probably. He definitely looks like he will be solid. Who knows though.
