Not for this initial contract he wouldn't.

Yeah but he'll eventually get a 5th year so it's misleading.

I don't even know about that. If Rose is still on the team I don't think Melo can take a five year deal. It's the same reason Minnesota fucked up and gave Love only 4 years.. They were saving the 5 year contract for Rubio

I'm saying that he will eventually play a 5th year for the Bulls even with the 4 year contract restriction.

Carlos Boozer signed a contract with the Bulls that was more than Magic and Bird made in their careers.

And until the official paperwork is filed, I still don't believe Reinsdorf will amnesty him. Next Friday is the deadline, right?

Per @Adrian Wojnarowski, if the Lakers don't sign-and-trade Pau to the Bulls, he'll accept a yearly amount of $6.5 million instead of $10 million.

Joe Cowley Source: In Melo's chat with the Bulls, he conveyed how hard of a decision it was and how thankful he was for the visit. ... So there's that.

Per Brian Windhorst (whoever that is): Bulls in the process of finalizing a free agent deal with Pau Gasol. Will not be a sign-and-trade with Lakers, sources told ESPN.

Per Paul Garcia (again whoever that is): Pau Gasol has officially announced he'll be joining the Chicago Bulls.

Also: Pau Gasol tweets he'll play with the Chicago Bulls sportando.com/en/usa/nba/126… http://t.co/Ee2IhnMher

I believe "Pau Gasol" is Spanish for "bronze medal"

Ok...................what's the dollar amount? Years?

And what is next because this can't be the only move, right?

Can they make a run at Lance Stephenson?

Meh.

Do they have more room to add anyone else?

Yes, and this is flexible depending on if Boozer is traded or amnestied.

If Gasol is around $8M, they have about $8M to spend. If they can trade Dunleavy, they can save a couple million there too. Nas should be able to provide more accurate numbers.

Cool.

I know Stephenson is out there.

Who else is a possibility?

Oh and no thanks to Wade.

Don't they need a healthy chunk of that remaining $8M for Mirotic?

I believe the number is looking like $5M or $6M per year for Mirotic.

It's hard to say what they'll have. Unless they are able to trade Boozer they'll lose about $7.5M in roster exceptions. That really hurts their team.

I would have been fine with the Bulls getting Pierce for a year. They really need a wing that can create his own shot. Jimmy Buckets is unlikely to be able to make the shots he creates.

The cap rules really hurt my brain. Reminds me of when I liked math as a youngster up until the point where it stopped being about numbers and got into letters and symbols and all sorts of abstract nonsense. Which promptly hastened the cessation of my preliminary studies toward the engineering profession.

I get where some people can find fun in spreadsheet-jockeying (look at Capgeek and the interactive aspects of it) and kind of making a big game of Sudoku out of it all, but the NBA CBA takes it too far with trade exceptions and midlevel exceptions and Bird rights and Early Bird rights and luxury taxes and aprons and ENOUGH ALREADY. It's way too damn much, especially when you consider you're doing all this for what's for all intents and purposes like a nine-man roster!

Conversely, I wouldn't mind if the NHL's cap system were a little more intricate. It's basically money divided by years, the cap is hard, and the contracts are guaranteed. They added salary retention, but I'd like them to add a few more features (that would allow Chicago/Toronto/etc to steamroll cash-poor southern backwaters).

And I'm grateful for that, as my selfish preference is to think about how players fit together and play ball as a team, not so much how their respective and collective w2s add up.

The more I think about it, they must at least pursue Stevenson. The window is open right now, but nothing is guaranteed. They have an aging frontcourt. They have a banged up star. And they have the same problem they've had throughout the Rose era... no additional creator. They have to try to get a guy who could fit that bill NOW. Not later. Any flexibility moving forward should be a secondary concern. The window is now.

Disappointed the Bulls couldn't bring him back at that price.

Good for him. I like him and he played his way into that money. Definitely earned it.

So with Gasol and Mirotic deals how much do the Bulls have left to spend?

Depends on what happens with Boozer and how much they paid Kirk.

On the bright side at least the Bulls weren't Houston eh?
Sent away Asik, Lin w/ a 1st, no Bosh and lost Parsons for nothing.
