Saw it last night.
Not only the best special effects ever (think the opposite of the last few Star Wars) but it has a really good storyline.
I'm not sure if a fake monkey can win an Oscar but it could.

I'm having a really hard time not going to see this at some point this weekend...was really surprised with how much I enjoyed "Rise" so I've been looking forward to this since I saw the trailer.

I MIGHT take off my 7 year hiatus from a theatre and go see this in the middle of the day without the usual rift raft that keeps me out of the theatre.

Not a bad flick. It does keep your attention.

Ending could have been better but hey it's a franchise right?

Can you see this as a stand alone movie or do you have to know what has been going on in the previous
films? I have been intrigued by the reviews and commercials but haven't seen the other movies in the
Apes series including the originals.

Im not a big fan of these movies, but this one looks awesome.

There's only one previous movie in this reboot of the franchise, and it was decent.

The Marky Mark movie was awful, and a completely different storyline from these new films.

Assuming I don't go out of my way to see the first one in this installment, would I be able to pick up on

I haven't seen the new one yet, so I am not 100% sure. I have read that it is set 10 years after the first, so you might be okay. Maybe just read a short synopsis of the first if you are worried.

I'll sum up the first one for you. Caesar was an ape made smarter through drugs and raised by James Franco until he attacked a guy who got in John Lithgow's face. Then he had to go to a zoo where he was abused by Draco Malfoy. He fucked up Draco, busted out of the zoo, and broke into Franco's lab and stole drugs that he released upon a bunch of other apes that made them smart. He led them all to a forest outside San Francisco, riding a horse across the Golden Gate Bridge. Then he spoke. Humans freaked out. In the woods, he shared a tender moment with James Franco, but both man and ape knew they could never go back to the way things were.

Yes, the thing that made apes smarter also killed humans. But I think they cover that in the beginning of the new one. James Franco's neighbor was Patient Zero. There's a lesson here never to bring your work home with you.

Oh yeah, and this isn't really that important, but it's kind of funny. The apes in the zoo fucked with Caesar because he wore pants and most apes are proud panstless cretins. But Caesar, being smarter than the average ape, befriended the baddest fucking Silverback in the zoo and also the next smartest ape, an orangutan who knew sign language from his days in a circus.
