I don't think so. If that was the case, we would not be seeing the Eaton's and Abreu's with the Sox until 2018 or later. The Cubs have talent, but they have done so at the expense of being one of the worst teams in baseball for 3 straight years. Thats hard to do even if you are trying to lose.

Its not hard at all, Frank

100% agreed. There still is a lot to be seen about him.

I like that he worked hard enough on rehab that he may be able to play this year. I did not think he came into the season in great shape and was kind of concerned about his dedication.

My only concern with Eaton and Garcia is the balls out way they play. Its awesome but dangerous. Bryce Harper is the same way

Three years of Keppinger, is less than one year of Edwin Jackson. How can you still trust Theo after such a failure? I didn't even bring up Lackey or Crawford.

I think Edwin Jackson was a case where they had this money to spend on Sanchez and felt like they should spend it on someone.

Im not sure how much you can criticize the Lackey deal anymore (it was a terrible deal at first) after he was a huge part of them winning a World Series last year.

Anyway, I think Theo is ok with free agency. He had some decent signings too. I think he's better at finding value types than the HUGE deals

The board has been troll central lately especially as it regards Cubs and Sox commentary.

Yes, Ive noticed that too. Like the last 8 or 9 years

I guess that's why he wants to keep Robin around and built a horrible bullpen. Odd that I've heard this philosophy somewhere else but I'm sure this is totally different.

The problem is, and maybe you missed it on your board vacation, but Kirkwood changed the title of this thread to "Theo obsession" and complained that this thread has turned into a mess. I don't really care about how you or Kirkwood feel about my posts. You've mad it perfectly clear what you think of mine so there is no reason for me to try and change for you. If you want to think I'm a troll who just gets enjoyment by making fun of the Cubs go ahead. Just don't start intentionally trolling and then get mad when your troll thread is a mess.

If only he had written a manual for system wide standards on development of players that is absolutely unrecognizable in the way those players play.

You can have an Ace, a good slugger and another decent pitcher and still be really bad.

I wanted to know his plan. Simply asked the same questions being asked of the Cubs plan. Luckily I found his vision through other outlets.

Quote:
“Last year, on August 1, I came down to the breakfast table and my eight-year-old was sitting there looking at the headline of us trading Jake Peavy,” explained Hahn. “He said to me, ‘What are you doing? You’re making the team worse. Isn’t your job supposed to be to win games?’ I had to explain to him that sometimes you have to take a half step back in order to get better for the long term. That’s what we had to do last year at the deadline. If there are opportunities to improve ourselves for the long term, we’ll weigh them against any short-term detriment.

Hahn's kid and Bernstein's kid should become BFF's.

You have a really good 1-2 combination and a great slugger. Of course they can still be bad, but it would take Hahn doing a pretty horrible job for the next couple years

Let me also say that Hahn's vision pretty much sucks so far. I don't like it so far and they better be in the 85+ wins range next year.

There are some good individual moves but it is time to put up or shut up.

I just would have included a few more assets like Eaton and Garcia.

It may be a personal thing because I see that and remember how bad the Cubs were with Sosa, a legit ace and a good #2

Paulino and a bunch of unknowns in the bullpen looks awful. If the bullpen had been able to nail down even half the games they have blown the Sox would be within striking distance of the Tigers.

I look at Eaton and Garcia as unknowns still at the MLB level, although I'm pretty optimistic both will be decent. I know there's more to it than the three guys I mentioned but I think their contracts give Hahn a lot of operating room even if Garcia and/or Eaton don't end up very good.

BRICK in fairness to Hahn he lost Avi for the year and his bullpen backbone was crushed without Lidstrom and Jones. He missed on Paulino and the failure of the top prospect Johnson really hurt.He should have done a Theo and signed two guys (Feldman/Baker) (Hammel/MacDonald) to have a fall back for Paulino. I doubt he makes that mistake again. One a vet with something to prove and a TJ comeback guy...just a TJ guy was a BIG riskand he got burned.

I would also like to see them get a Hispanic speaking coach and a coach who can teach ..if Dave McKay could teach Soriano to play the outfield someone can help the Sox in the same manner.

85+ is a goal but coining DJ there is "work to do"... I think he can do it maybe not next year but I can see him doing it.

Next year is basically it for me as a White Sox fan if they aren't good. Spend more money and win more games. Otherwise, I'll be back in 2025.

At least you'll be happy to know that Rodon's first pitching coach with the Winston Salenm Dash is named J.R. Perdew.

I have been going to Sox games since I was a kid ...my first glove was a Nellie Fox and my first year with season tickets was in 1970.... my REAL dream is a Sox -Cubs World Series and it goes to the seventh game and into extra innings ...bith teams run out of players so Bud let's them bring in Wilbur Wood to face Ernie Banks ...and I fall asleep listening on the radio......

If you have stayed with Purdue football, you can stay with the Sox.

Sounds like Tim Anderson is a potential all star per Bernstein. We know Radon is.

There is your answer. Hahn's vision is to draft great players and sign great players.

Any more questions?

Quote:
Tim Anderson, SS, White Sox (Birmingham, AA): 4-6, 2 R, 2B. Anderson has been red-hot since his return from the DL (fractured wrist) and subsequent jump to Double-A, where he had seven hits in his first two games before an 0-fer on Sunday. Anderson is a supremely talented athlete who is still learning how to best utilize that talent on a baseball field and thus probably won’t remain at shortstop, especially if the White Sox continue to move him quickly, something they have a propensity to do with top prospects. His offensive game, while full of potential, needs refinement, as evidenced by his 73-to-9 K:BB ratio this season. Still, the athletic package and tools are second to none.
