Sent away Asik, Lin w/ a 1st, no Bosh and lost Parsons for nothing.

Yeah, they are the huge losers of this off-season. I don't understand why they let Parsons go after losing out on absolutely everybody. They have a pretty SOLID team, and now they have just taken a step back.

Starters: Rose, Butler, Dunleavy, Pau, Noah
Bench: Kirk, Snell, McDermott, Mirotic, Taj

So that's basically our team for next year, figuring McDermott/Dunleavy and possibly Taj/Pau will switch rotation spots? All comes down to Rose's health, once again. So we're probably fucked.

It is and always will be about Rose. Even if Anthony came here, they weren't winning in the playoffs without Rose. The only way that might have changed was if LeBron came here.

I don't think so. If Melo came here we would be a title contender with or without Rose next year.

All hypothetical I guess, but I don't see it happening. Maybe they get to the conference finals, but the East is really weak, so who knows.

The Bulls are building a team like they are trying to compete with the Spurs.

I don't really agree with that. They are building a team like a team who misses out on its main FA target would.

The pieces that they've acquired looks like they are trying to match up against the Spurs to me. I understand why they went to Plan B.

Everyone understands why they went to Plan B. You never voluntarily go to Plan B. That's why it's Plan B.

I would have flown The Weeknd in to perform "What You Need" live for Carmelo.

If Carmelo doesn't sign after that...you don't want Carmelo.

It's way too damn much, especially when you consider you're doing all this for what's for all intents and purposes like a nine-man roster!

I like it. To succeed, you need really smart management. It rewards smart teams. There's a million factors to consider, and opportunities abound for the creative.

So the Boozer move is official and we drafted and have Pao. Who has the correct cap number the Bulls have left as of today?

Mid-Level: $5,305,000
Bi-Annual: $2,077,000
Trade Exception (Luol Deng, expiring 1/6/15) — $275,000
Trade Exception (Marquis Teague, expiring 1/21/15) — $1,074,720
Trade Exception (Greg Smith, expiring 7/14/15) — $948,163

The Bulls are at the cap still, the Boozer amnesty only allows for the signings of Pau and Mirotic. It doesn't really leave any money left over.

I think.

Depending on how the structure the contracts of Mirotic and Gasol. Even then it would only be a couple million at most. They could open up more by dumping Dunleavy. Not sure they need him. Especially with Snell and McDermott.

Absolutely. His role is simply not needed on this team anymore. Ideally, you could move him for someone that can provide some ball-handling. He's a good player on a very reasonable contract, so hopefully something shakes out.

In other news, I'm coming to terms with the Pau signing. The Bulls' biggest weakness was lack of ball-handlers, and this didn't address that, but they also had a pretty huge hole at the backup-5. This addresses that to a considerable degree. Though Pau brings a lot of what Boozer brought, he also brings the ability to play 4 or 5. God willing, they should be able to reduce Noah's minutes with the bevvy of forwards they have now. And, really, $7.5M isn't ridiculous for a guy that just posted a 19 PER. With Noah, Gasol, Taj, Mirotic, and Bairstow, they have the ability to throw out a whole lot of different looks in various scenarios.

Fun fact: Gasol had the same number of blocked shots (92) last year (60 games) as Boozer had during his entire Bulls tenure.

I am seeing Gasol as a rest to both Taj and Noah regardless of who starts.

Yeah, that's a nice option. No need to kill those guys; Gasol can fill both roles well. The Bulls' frontcourt is pretty damn good now. Also, he's more of an offensive option at either position; so you can put him in and trade defense for offense when the need arises. His defense sucks, but he's considerably better on the other end than either Taj or Noah, at either position.

my brother thought he was going to be smart and buy season tickets because of how valuable they would be after free agency. Luckily, I had him slow down on those thoughts.

He's the worst defensive player on the team. Offensively he should help.

We never discussed Evan Turner as a cheap option. Did anyone here think he might be worth a flyer? After his bad Pacers tenure, probably not.

Maybe Rick?
