I did though. Did your bold text editing miss that part?

I'm driving on a busy NYC expressway. I can't be looking back 2 or 3 times. I was in my lane pretty much the whole time. I may have ended up driving on the line for a second before returning to my own lane.

This is the problem. This is what scares me about motorcyclists. I was doing everything I could to avoid an accident on all sides of me and you seemingly seem to be putting the blame on me just like Mr. Motorcycle did.

I'm just glad to know that a 5 second stare at me as he drove past is "safe".

Looking at your mirrors, and turning your head to look is not the same thing. That's why it's called a blind spot. It's a spot your mirrors cannot get a clear view of.

I did look back. That is why I stopped the merge. This wasn't highway driving in the middle of a cornfield. I was basically timing my look back with the start of the merge knowing I could just keep going if there was the unlikely event of someone there.

I didn't see anything about you checking your blind spot.

I didn't realize a quick look back was you checking your blind spot. It sounds like you could have done more, so I don't think you literally did everything you could.

Anything more and I'm opening up a much better chance of causing an accident in my lane.

This is the perfect example of the issue though. You can't even verbalize my mistake here.

I'm confident I did all I could, and I think the fact that the motorcyclist was never in danger from my car is good evidence of this. I guess he showed me with the nice long stare as he drove past though.

I was actually driving to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a food festival when this incident happened. There is a bike path that runs along it that had to be crossed to get into the food tent area. There were people walking on the bike path because there was figuratively no other way to get there and a guy on a bike yells "Bike Path!" at them and one guy says "Why don't you go fuck yourself?". The guy on the bike gets about 20 feet away and then turns around and asks him to repeat it. The guy repeats it again and the guy on the bike drives away.

 at the bold.

Some bicyclists are tough guys until you stop the car.

I just don't understand why car drivers have to do everything short of putting it in park and getting out of the vehicle to check under the car to make sure there are no motorcyclists around. Driving a motorcycle carries an increased risk of injury and death. Fact. It is also a voluntary choice to drive a motorcycle. Fact. The burden doesn't fall on auto drivers to ensure their safety. They should be treated with the same level of caution as all other vehicles.

He did say he checked behind him. The motorcyclist at that point, should have noticed a car with his signal on indicating the lane change and made himself visible to BRick.

Usually the best way to do that is to disagree with him.

You know, I can't say it enough times. I'm in my car far more than I'm on my bike. But when I'm in my car a guy on a bike isn't endangering me the way a guy in a car might when I'm on my bike. I find myself growing ever more militant on the bike.

Just last week I was riding down Lincoln Street near Northwestern. They just put a gigantic garage on the north end of campus so suddenly Lincoln is a fucking highway. Well, there was a group of four typical Evanston lesbians on bikes in front of me. They were over to the right as was I and they were going slower than I was. Note I didn't start screaming at them to get the fuck out of my way because I was faster traffic. I shoulder checked and saw a BMW about half a block back. I had plenty of room to pull out to my left and go around the carpet munchers. The speed limit is 30 tops and might be less. I'm well in front of this guy and I have every right to be on the road. I signal with my hand and as soon as I come out he lays on the horn. To what purpose? To make me jerk right and cause a wreck with the girls? Because he thinks he's more important than I am? What does he think I might do? Of course, I move further left so he doesn't clip me. He proceeded to pull out to where oncoming traffic would be if there were any and stomp on the gas so his tires squealed. I caught him at the next stop sign. I think he was afraid because he made a sudden right turn onto Orrington.
