Jesus man. The back back back makes it nearly unwatchable. But my wife loves the Derby. So we watch it every year.

I've still got a half hour - hour of Little Mermaid before I can even think about the derby. Don't want the oldest to be scarred for life by Berman.

Oh Christ on a crumb cake my wife loves that movie. Makes me want to honk when she puts it in. Can't stand Disney. I'm going to be a lousy dad.

There are usually alternating showings of SpongeBob and Frozen. This is a pleasant departure.

Exactly.

This x2. Yesterday I tried to get my 4 and a half year old to watch Speed Racer with me on YouTube. It was by far my favorite cartoon as a kid and I was his age when I first started watching it. So he's on my lap and we are watching The Mammoth Car episode and I have tears in my eyes at the memories it's bringing back as well as the bonding moment. Phone rings and I get up to get it, come back and the little fucker not only stopped watching it, he was in the other room watching fucking Randy Cunningham ninth grade ninja. so much for what he thought of Speed Racer.

Try Underdog. If that doesn't work, you've got big problems.

My older boy loves Phineas and Ferb, Sofia, and Doc McStuffins.

Kipper is one of the easiest cartoons for an adult to sit through.

Scooter riders, particularly those in Evanston it seems, are the worst. They don't want to obey the law by remaining at a red light, they decide to ride on the right in your blindspot forcing you to stay left. And when its time to drift right to make a right turn, where are they? Oh, yeah, still in your blindspot. They go just fast enough to be an annoyance and will slow down just because they are now centered in the lane. Worse, they decide to arbitrarily stop along the road but not get out of traffic.

As for motorcycles, too many don't obey the law by riding with an operating headlamp, staying in the left part of the lane when riding single, and deciding to go between cars when in traffic. I drive over 2 tons of vehicle so seriously, fuck them if I hit them. Yeah, motherfucker, I saw you, you didn't see me.

Agreed.

You know, I can't say it enough times. I'm in my car far more than I'm on my bike. But when I'm in my car a guy on a bike isn't endangering me the way a guy in a car might when I'm on my bike. I find myself growing ever more militant on the bike.

Just last week I was riding down Lincoln Street near Northwestern. They just put a gigantic garage on the north end of campus so suddenly Lincoln is a fucking highway. Well, there was a group of four typical Evanston lesbians on bikes in front of me. They were over to the right as was I and they were going slower than I was. Note I didn't start screaming at them to get the fuck out of my way because I was faster traffic. I shoulder checked and saw a BMW about half a block back. I had plenty of room to pull out to my left and go around the carpet munchers. The speed limit is 30 tops and might be less. I'm well in front of this guy and I have every right to be on the road. I signal with my hand and as soon as I come out he lays on the horn. To what purpose? To make me jerk right and cause a wreck with the girls? Because he thinks he's more important than I am? What does he think I might do? Of course, I move further left so he doesn't clip me. He proceeded to pull out to where oncoming traffic would be if there were any and stomp on the gas so his tires squealed. I caught him at the next stop sign. I think he was afraid because he made a sudden right turn onto Orrington.

I think the dynamic is a little different depending on city vs country/burbs. In the city, bike riders are more expected and actually do help cut down on traffic in the larger scheme of things. There are practices in place to help regulate bike riders vs cars. I have typically lived in less populated areas, and bike riders there tend to either not know the rules or just flatout ignore them. Also, there are situations that I don't think even have rules. For example, I will occasionally be driving on a two-lane highway and a bike rider will be straddling the right solid line. While he isn't in the middle of the lane, he is essentially taking up the whole lane because I would have to move into the left lane to pass him. If there is oncoming traffic, I literally have no option but to drive behind him at 30 MPH until the oncoming traffic is gone. Meanwhile, the bike riders will occasionally look back at me like I'm supposed to go around. I can't go around; that's the point. But I also have to look out for their safety by not getting too close. I mean, if a bicycle is technically a road vehicle, shouldn't they have to go at least the minimum speed limit?

Unless you are driving Boilermaker Rick's SUV, it should not be that difficult to find a gap in oncoming traffic and easily pass, given the disparity in speed and the fact that the biker is essentially signaling you to pass and straddling the line.

Not if oncoming traffic is lined up with dozens of cars. And that's exactly what happens on the two-lane highway where I live. It goes through town, so there are stop lights. At certain times, there is no break in traffic. I drive a truck, but I think that has little to do with it. Beyond that, some of the bikers don't consistently straddle the line. They will weave back and forth. What if they "weave" the wrong way when I pass? It's not just a dented bumper like it would be with another car; it could be a serious injury or worse. More importantly, what about my liability exposure? My auto limits might not cover all th medical bills.

Weaving? Well, now you've got a big problem on your hands, mister. Godspeed!

I don't like your tone, Furious. I'm going to mow down the next motorcyclist I see because of your nastiness. Try sleeping with that on your conscience.

CSFMB East Coast bias against motorbikes is alive and well. I need to join an MC to feel validated now.
