Yeah, you're not working because it's raining...that's fine, it happens...but then you'd better make fucking sure your online shit runs like clockwork...apparently no one can access their HBO right now...not like there is anything on there anyone would want to be watching at the moment...

wtf, i gotta get rid of this shit. and to lipid's original point, the service seems to be going out for me a LOT more than it used to...i've had it at my current house for like 8 years now and its never been this bad, seems like now the sky gets cloudy and it goes out, didn't used to be like that

the only thing i need to check is i upgraded my receiver a few years ago which (of course) extends whatever your contract/obligation is, but i think i should be in the clear now .

if the only holdup for me is a few local Sox/Bulls games that get blacked out, i'll take the loss at this point , i think i'll live

Get U-Verse and don't look back.
We had DTV for about 8 years too long.

I don't think it's a real fee. Sounds like DirecTV is turning public opinion against RSNs by itemizing the carriage fee they pay and in turn pass on to you. Nice little trick. But if they are charging you more, that's an even better trick.

So should I not switch the DTV? My Comcast bill is getting out of hand with all of their extra DVR/HD/Technology fees, and I was looking at DTV as an option.

If you don't mind every time it mists or snows you satellite going out, you are good.

Something has to have changed
as i said , i've had it at my current home for about 8 years now
for the most part it was fine. i would say outages were less than 5 per year, and only in extreme situations. nothing at all i was upset about
in the last year, it has gotten a lot worse. its probably gone out 5 times in the last month alone

I had it for less than a year, and damn near wanted to rip the thing off the side of my house myself.

Thanks guys....as long as it doesn't go out during prime times for me (Sporting events), the outages wouldn't bother me as much because I could probably go on the internet and log into my Baby McNown account and argue with BRick to bide my time until it comes back on. Will make a decision before the football season starts, unless Comcast gives me one of those retention deals.

I called Comcast to cancel my cable about two months ago. When they asked why, I said I bought an over-the-air antenna and was going to use that. They offered to cut my bill by 40%, so I stayed. I'm now paying about $5 more for cable and internet than I would have paid had I cancelled cable and just kept internet service.

You could try calling them and telling them you want to cancel because you're going to use an OTA antenna and see if they give you a deal. I should have done that before I bought the antenna. If you'd like to buy mine... :)

Exactly. That's why I want to call them first before I make a decision.

Here, we only have three options: DTV, dish, or cable. I wish we could get uverse but it is not in PA.
We do not have the local sports fee, but we do not get the local (philly) sports channel because they are comcast-ed up and refuse to allow them to be put on DTV. Doesn't bother me though.

Also, I never have a problem with it going out. Plus everytime I threaten to leave directv they give me a huge discount.

We have DISH at the house.

And whenever I have a question, I find there automated voice to be very soothing.

I used to install direct tv.
You may need to realign the dish if you lose signal easily.
You shod have a signal meter somewhere in your menu.
On a clear day you should be in the 90 's on all transponders. If you're not you need to realign.

Helpful Hint: Today we learn of yet another trade Mr. Darkside is allegedly skilled in. Tomorrow he will regale us of tales of being a termite exterminator; on Friday we'll learn tips on wheel alignments & tire rotations. Tributosaurus has nothing on this guy.

Uverse is awesome.

I don't think we've ever had an outage last more than 10-15minutes. The first year, our bill was ~$95 for HDTV and internet. We have the U200 plan which is a step above the basic plan. The only complaint I have is that this package does not have MLB Network, but I've learned to live without it.

When we first signed up, we got a $100 Visa gift card as a new account, and got all of the movie channels free for 3 months. After the first year, our bill has gone up to $150something each month, but we have also gotten three random $10 Visa gift cards in the mail just as a 'thank you' for being their customer.
