Caught some of Kap n Lazarus this morning ( or maybe it was someone called Captain Lazarus ? ) and they were interviewing Todd Hollandsworth. One of the subjects that came up was the extraordinarily high divorce rate for mlb players ( over 70 % ) Hollandsworth passed at least part of it off on the schedule those guys have to keep with 6 months of playing baseball and all the travel involved, etc. They did touch on that fact that most of them cant keep their cock in their pants while on the road as well ( which Im going to say causes a fuckton more athlete divorces than anything ) Got me thinking, I see my wife and son for about an average of 2 to 3 hours a day. Im at work before they even think about getting up (between 330 and 530am most mornings) , and home around 7. I do usually get a break during the midmorning hours where I can usually make it back home for a few hours but wife is at work , child in daycare at that point. I do it for a hell of a lot less money than the average major league player makes in addition to the 6 months off they have. I would say on average I see my family less than they do yet still have a fairly strong marriage with no infidelities ( only because Spaulding won't have me) . So is it to quote Dr Bernstein, causal or correlation that their marriages fall part because of their grueling work schedule?

Has to be a big part. They're on the road all the time with single teammates who bring women around.

I'm either travelling for work or working from home for the most part, so it's feast or famine for us. But I'm not around young hot women when I travel so I can't really relate to baseball players either.

What the hell do you do that causes you to work 14 hour days?

They make enough money for the marriage to be "disposable" for both parties.

I wouldn't limit it to Spaulding.

I would say the cause of ballplayers divorce is because they live and work in a fantasy world for the majority of the year and then have to try and go back to the absolute opposite for the remainder.

Yeah but the average working joe cant afford to fly his family everywhere and anywhere his road trips take him either. Throw in the fact that if kids are involved, they're off for the summer and can join them on many road trips plus they play 3 months of that schedule at home. I would think they can make those hours work a helluva lot easier than Joe Businessman who doesn't have those financial advantages to do those things yet 3 of 4 of them end up divorced? Not trying hard enough would be my guess. There's no rest for transportation analysts, leash.

You have to keep in mind that the women ALOT of these players are marrying were minor league and major league cleat chasers. This is more of a investment/trophy partnership than it is a normal marriage. If you take the guys that married girls they knew from high school, college or their home area then the numbers are probably far closer to the norm.

I remember a picture of the Cubs wives from some charity event this off season or last season. Travis is not getting divorced. I can tell from that picture that he is one of the very few that followed the high school/home town path.

In transportation myself, but I am not working that many hours unless a special project is in place.

The thing is, 50%+ of marriages in general end in divorce, so the number isn't THAT staggering.

Can you transportation experts vouch that bikes and motorcycles fuck everything up?

I haven't "worked" an hour in a month and 2 days.
Yet I feel pretty tired every night when I go to bed.

Wow, if that shocked you, you should take a look at the Israel thread.

Since the divorce rate in my industry is above average without the benefit of the attractive female groupies, I would postulate that the odd hours contributes to the increase. I've worked 196 hours of OT already this year, my manager has 244- as much as he legally can work. The rotating from days to nights and back makes contact time at home extra limited- not like a 15 game West Coast road trip I'm sure. Considered a raving asswipe by many, my family actually benefits from my absence.

I work between 14 and 16 hours a day out of state. Usually 7 days a week for 6 weeks. Then 2 weeks of vaca yaha drunken time. Detox and repeat. Needless to say, I have no kids at the moment, and it is pretty much impossible to maintain a relationship with this schedule.

I will never complain about my schedule or my pay, I don't make an amazing amount, but for where I live cost of living wise, I make enough that my wife doesn't have to work.
My schedule from end of August to the Beginning of May: Tuesdays-Friday 8-4. Rest of the year, I go in once or twice a week for a few hours for meetings/writing.

However, for ballplayers, this might be an environmental thing. The road/women throwing themselves at them is quite likely, but when they are home, it probably doesn't happen that much. While it's not the same arena, I've seen the professor/student thing happen quite a bit more than I'd like to admit (not me, but I do know a few), especially with grad students.

Mon- Fri, leave the house about 6am, get home between 5:15- 6pm depending on traffic. Very thankful to have a job where I make decent $, have nights and weekends (90% of them) off, and have some sweet perks like a company car and phone, but still it can be quite rough and I'm generally pretty wiped by the time I get home on Thurs.

I'm usually at work by 6:15 and home by 3:10. I go home for lunch to let my dog out and grab a bite
to eat between 10:45 and 11:30. I'm divorced but it didn't have anything to do with my work schedule
or groupies at work.

I need never know. Could be 7a- 1pm or 8 am to 8 PM or any combination thereof with midnight call outs. It's impossible to plan anything.
