Ugh, Dirk Hayhurst. I didn't know Chris Kluwe played baseball, too.

Kryptonite/Three Doors Down is by far the shittiest song/band mentioned in this thread.
Talk about the epitome of "Punch Me In The Face" face.

Repeatedly using "honorarium" without knowing what it means. Yep, Baseball Kluwe. "I'm really smart! I'm gonna blow your mind with how things really are because I'm the smart guy! You can't deny the enormity of my intelligence!"

This guy just cited that Giancarlo Stanton's hand was black and blue from the all star game.

Oops. It was a fan. I think we should all trust his thoughts!

Deadspin is in love with Hayhurst for going after The Unwritten Rules, which has been a bugbear of theirs for years. They love pretty much any player who's willing to break bad on the establishment, and sometimes other players: I believe he recently outed Evan Longoria as a hoarder of AK-47s for no good reason other than because he felt like it. I think he even transcended Deadspin and started writing for Sports On Earth, which is Deadspin for people who know that Gawker sucks. We might be stuck with this guy for a while.

I was gonna post the same thing. I'd replace them with Live on that list. Collective Soul's self titled album is one of my favorites. Not a bad song on it IMHO.

He defends it because it does 90% of his job. His scolding of EA was borderline embarrassing.

Does chumbawumba qualify or too late into the 90's? Wheatus certainly qualifies. Teenage Dirtbag is a such a jam.

Edit: Nevermind! Teenage Dirtbag was 2000!

So Dan applauds "Word Crimes" and laments that David Foster Wallace isn't here to appreciate it, then he writes this passive-voice clanger?

Okay, cool

I think I've mentioned this before, but it never ceases to amaze me that two of DFW's most vocal admirers are Bill Simmons (who writes like an upmarket Drew Magary) and Dan Bernstein (who writes like a poor man's Harold Lauder).

Upon reading this thread I've come to the realization that I'm so glad I have absolutely no knowledge of 90s adult/contemporary stuff because i'm neither an adult nor contemporary. In fact I find when I occasionally troll through the non-internet-radio world of AM/FM/SXM that I'm essentially a middleaged black guy in terms of what I go for.... 102.7 and channel 50 on SiriusXM, so that means that I'm right on schedule cuz Colonel Motherfucking* Abrams is right in my wheelhouse. I can still remember the utter shock of the day I saw that old schwarzenegger red heat flick where they go into the 80s-as-hell bar and this song is playing and i'm like "oh hell no this the song that boards of canada did those 2 hell interface remixes of!"

What Lou Reed started with "perfect day" Colonel Abrams (a man whose parents no doubt "knew" when they birthed him and immediately assigned him arbitrary maritime rank) continued with "trapped" and "i'm not gonna let (you get the best of me)" and "how soon we forget" in terms of those powerful love songs that are so powerful that you know are really about heroin.

Third Eye Blind had four good songs, which puts them in the Goo Goo Dolls/Matchbox Twenty/Hootie and the Blowfish/Gin Blossoms tier.

V103 is a good station. I wish they hadn't lost the BMX callsign.

Truth.

They've dropped off over the past few albums but they built up a pretty impressive catalog of hits on those first four or five albums.

hey did you ever see that there's a bunch of old vintage WBMX mixes/parts up on youtube? here's an example that showed up atop a perfunctory youtube search there's also some other website that's a "database" with a bunch of downloads for mp3s of the 80s mixes. Now that's the "information age" working for me.

and when i'm on tunein the one pretty good oldschool rap station is calling itself WBMX. i find it apropos.... and hot damn that song at 1:30 in the mix i linked = fuckyeah!

edit: OOOOOHHHH.... tracklist on this one. time for audio discovery.

You'll shut up and listen to a half dozen people say "uhhhhhhhhhhh" way too much and like it.

All of this from The Senor Columnist who is too thin skinned to allow comments (& the page clicks they would inspire) on the company website?

Another eerie similarity between Señores Columnist and Simmons.

Yeah, people are doing good work posting vintage BMX/B96 mixes and airchecks. Takes me back, at least in the case of B96.

That press conference was pretty dry, even by press conference standards.

Please tell me you find Hayhurst as wearying as I do. I don't know if you caught it, but he kept using "honorarium" as a word denoting a place, like an terrarium that has honors in it instead of dirt. He did it at least three times. I was screaming inside. Maybe baseball players are traditionally so taciturn for very good reasons.

It should be pointed out that Terry complained that Kaner said "Um" too much.
