Does Wisconsin count, if they get by LSU, they could run the table. The Nebraska game is their toughest game. And oh yes, my Razorbacks will be quite bad as well, I believe.

Two words: Wes Lunt.

The Illini OC compared him to Tom Brady the other day.

Cats are getting some Dark Horse accolades, but I'm not drinking the proverbial Kool Aid. I think everyone is anxious to see Trevor NOT split time with Union Boy. Venric Mark is back healthy (until he's not!). Treyvonn Green actually averaged 5.4 YPC. WR's are solid. O-line is back a bit bigger and wiser. Offense should be ok. Defense should be pretty decent except for the interior DLs where we have zero depth. That truly scares me.

My homer optimistic outlook:

Aug. 30, 2014 California - Win
Sept. 6, 2014 Northern Illinois - Win
Sept. 20, 2014 Western Illinois - Win
Sept. 27, 2014 at Penn State - Win
Oct. 4, 2014 Wisconsin - Loss
Oct. 11, 2014 at Minnesota - Win
Oct. 18, 2014 Nebraska - Win
Nov. 1, 2014 at Iowa - Loss
Nov. 8, 2014 Michigan - Loss
Nov. 15, 2014 at Notre Dame - Loss
Nov. 22, 2014 at Purdue - Win
Nov. 29, 2014 Illinois - Win

Whatever happened to that whole Union thing anyway, I must have missed it?

I actually ran into a player recently and he said it was voted down by a ratio of 4-1, but the results were not publicized. Not sure where the process goes from here.

Ok, I do remember when they had the vote and then it was like nothing, thought that was weird. I am sure that is the way the school wanted it.

Penciling in a win at Penn State does seem slightly optimistic. I'd say the same thing about Minnesota but @Minnesota in any given year doesn't register the same.

I didn't know @ND was on the schedule this year. That is a good time of year for me as it is a lull in kid's sports seasons and a little bit after the white sox world series run. I might have to get out to that game.

Most of the regs on the NIU board are pretty much looking past NW like it's some sort of given. I am not, I expect a close game either way. It'd be nice of NIU knew who their QB was.
Not a fan of 3 straight non-conf road games, that's gonna be tough for NIU.

Cats will be playing in at least the 40s on NIU. How is the Huskie offense looking.

Lol with ya Spanky. I did say my homer optimistic outlook if that makes it any better. I just think we have a bit better offense with Lynch gone, but its no gimme... probably a toss up.

As for Penn State. I think they have a comparable offense, and a worse defense (I can't believe I just said it). Penn State's defense has troubles. But playing in Happy Valley hasn't been kind to the Cats, so that's a toss up game too.

Here's the Penn State outlook:
Offense: good.
Defense: not.
Overall, we are just happy we can sorta start cheering for them again. It's nice having a coach that doesn't have the taint of rape alle- OH SHIT.

My 2014/15 season has already been made seeing as I will no longer live in Ohio next to those annoying fucking Ohio State fans....sorry kirkwood.

I thought NIU already had their QB in place....the backup who got a little action last year. They better keep recruiting hard because you can be damn sure that PJ is taking a good portion of guys they want and used to get.

NIU got the 2:30 timeslot on the BTN. Great news if you are thinking of tailgating in Evanston and want to get in a brat and a beer or three. Spanky and Doug, any interest in a lil reunion? I didn't get a parking pass this year because of the $500 minimum donation, but I bet can score one for that game.

You forgot about this game being the toughest:

11/22/14 Wisconsin @ Iowa

And he will be able to get them by rowing the boat.

I'd probably be interested but I'd have a kid or two in tow.

Wes Lunt is unproven but I'm more excited about watching him run an offense than I ever was about Scheelhaase. Four long years of watching your QB never make a big play. Turner and Zook both had winning seasons and bowls in year three. I think U of I could get six wins. They should finish the pre-season 3-1 and all of the conference home games seem winnable.

I'm pretty sure football will be demoted to a club sport at the U of I after the upcoming season. The same will happen for basketball in 2016.

The Illini can then schedule the Irish under the Club Basketball status -- an NCAA men's program that's looking at a rocky road ahead.

Irish football: The new field turf is being installed as we speak. I can sympathize with purists who wanted to retain a grass surface -- but despite the best groundskeeping efforts of recent years, the ND field has been horrible over the last few years in particular.
