I'll take my chances with a first round draft pick rather than an undrafted free agent.

 Actually, most week night she sits and reads and I flip around between the Sox game, Golf Channel, Seinfeld reruns, or whatever is on TV Land (winter it was Everybody Loves Raymond, lately its been black & white Andy Griffith shows). That win all the way around.

Right now it's 6-2 M-Th and 4-12 Fr...could be 5-1 M-Th here pretty soon again, though I'm trying to avoid it.

And you get free rides home from the local law enforcement, so you got that going for ya. Which is nice.

I planned on living by those rules and I made that plan verbally clear to everyone I met but it didn't work out. Something kept happening. Looking back in some ways it was probably best. My friends still tell decade old stories of things that I did and almost succeeded in doing like it was yesterday. In my mid 20's I still had a desire to have some of that fun but now I'm glad that I resisted the temptation.

I think another point this thread is talking about is quality of life,
I would say I'm very happy with my quality of life, even if I live in the middle of nowhere. It does lead to a couple of tough points (that many of my friends/family do not understand):
1. The level of jealousy we have for all parents with grandparent/aunt/uncle/family around is really high. The first time my wife and I went on a vacation/had a night where we were not sleeping in the same place with our kids in 7 years was in May and that was after the trip was delayed from October because our childcare fell through. However, we knew that going into this job. Because of that:
2. We have a real strict 7:30 bedtime for all of our kids. It's the only way my wife and I can get any adult time.
It's a tradeoff, we get jealous about things like "Aunts taking the kids for the weekend" or "grandparent daycare" but at the same time, if we lived in the same town as either set of parents, I'm pretty sure we would not be talking to them at this point. We joke that if we could only get to a three hour buffer of either set of grandparents (close enough to send away, but not close enough for the unannounced drop in) would be great, but we make do with what we have.

Don't get me started about how my inlaws always cut trips here short because they grandparent daycare their other grandchildren who live close to them and can't "let them down." It's a real sticky issue with my wife.

Had to air that grievance as it just came up again tonight.

I feel you Cory with regard to the no close relatives. When we were still in Illinois it was rare to non existent that a blood relative didn't fight to watch / keep our kids.

My mom keeps offering to fly the kids out for a week, however they are still a tad young for that or else we would jump on it.
Especially now, as we hit the worst part of the summer.

We used to meet my Mom half way and they would take kids for a week. That was good.

When the youngest is in elementary school, we are going to be ready to do it. He's still a tad young for it.

Hey! Let me let you asswipes in on a little secret. I'm rich as fuck! And I didn't get that way by being stupid. I cook smarter and I do TV smarter. That's why I'm driving the Rolls Royce to Flavortown. Now, some of you might be saying, "Guy, how can I do what you do? I'm stuck here in my $40 K a year job?" And my answer to you is, sorry, you can't. You're just not as smart as I am. Billionaires pay me a hundred grand just to hang out with them for a day. Do you think anyone would give pittmike or JORR even a sawbuck to hang out? I truly pity you people without friends and television shows. Your lives must suck!

The nice thing about that 5:25am alarm everyday....
I beat traffic in both directions and I'm home before the school buses are on the roads.
