I can't stand Hawk....but when the Sox are losing, I often tune in just to listen to him! So, to some degree, I will miss him when he leaves the booth.

these statements areone of the unfortunate residual effects of the very.smart.people masters of the universe mentality that Berns spouts every day--there is no doubt that Reinsdorf makes money for the people he needs to, and I would imagine he sits in well-appointed rooms and impresses guys like Berns with his acumen, but by any conventional corporate view, he's been terrible as a businessman in terms of keeping people around who needed to go. What's ironic is that he is doing this in an era where there is no loyalty in business anymore in many places, and that is celebrated by corporate boards and Wall Street. My guess is that Jerry makes enough $$ for his board that they let him have his favored clowns around past their welcome (Krause, Hawk, Ozzie, Baines, list goes on).

Over the years I've found myself watching the tv broadcast less not because of Hawk, but because I enjoy Farmer's call. His style is an acquired taste, but the day he's not calling Sox games on the radio will be a very sad one for me. Initially it was either listen on 670 or miss the first hour of the game because I was usually driving home when it started; now I have the tv on, but that's mostly just in case I'm walking by or checking a replay of good defensive play or big hit. I remember much more about the 2007 White Sox than I care to because while I didn't want to watch shit like Jerry Owens or Andy Garcia "playing" baseball, the radio call was fun. I imagine the tv broadcast felt similar to attending a relative's wake- that was the last year I had a split plan until 2011-present, and apart from a game or two, it certainly felt like it at the ballpark...

People can say what they want about Rooney, but the Stone/Farmer pairing was pure. I've learned to accept DJ, but it was bad at first, going from Stone to DJ. Singleton was brutal too, but he improved by the time he left, and if you catch a game he's calling on ESPN, he's not bad.

I think Boers/Bernstein took it personally that Hawk called them out a few times in the past on the air, and they now have an axe to grind.

The White Sox can do better than Hawk, but to spend the amount of time they do harping on it day after day, not to mention the name calling, leads me to believe that these two are a bit more sensitive to criticism than they let on.

What drives me crazy about Farmer is that he predicts a home run 20x a game for a Sox hitter.

Post all-star break and asking myself do I want to watch the game tonight and with it Jose Abreu, or plan out time to watch a movie (and maybe catch the last 1-2 innings)? I know this thread started on the effectiveness of Hawk being a game draw (or repellent), but the idea that after the break I'm not enthused to watch because in part I don't care to hear the broadcast (I've given up on radio) is a reality.

Also, before Hawk's biggest critic lurks and then uses this as a pretense to make a show opening shot. His desired emphasis upon advanced metrics (and criticism of those who don't eagerly embrace such) would not only distract from the game but ultimately become boring. I don't need to hear a bunch of numbers as I'm watching Abreu step to the plate. And trying to draw pertinent numbers after he's done whatever just sounds tedious. Being "smarter" doesn't equate to being more entertaining, and ultimately that is the dilemma I'm facing for tonight, how I want to be entertained.

I probably listen to their show 10% of the amount I used to. And THEN to be treated to nuggets like "Brent Zobrist is statistically most similar to Chris Sabo" (of the 20 game White Sock Sabos) as if that's entertaining??? Click.

Bernstein reminds me of the kid who showed up in the expensive gym shoes, freshly dipped in all of the newest gear, and cannot play anything worth a damn.
