That Russell guy did something today...no big deal though. Billy RBI McKinney continues to be a snake in the grass in Daytona as well. Schwarber has a pair of hits and its not even worth mentioning since they weren't bombs.

This is just the ingredients.

I am in between a Jimmypasta and an IMU

I look forward to seeing these guys, but I do think at this point they can make an effort to build the team next year. No more tryouts.

I'm with you bigfan. This offseason is immensely important. I'm not saying the roster that must win the World Series for the Cubs is the Opening Day 2015 roster, but strides must be made.

A couple decent pitchers need to be brought in via trade or free agency. Maybe not a definite ace at this point, but guys that aren't half season flip projects.

Bryant and Baez need to be on the Opening Day roster with no exception. A free agent starting outfielder needs to be brought in. Second base needs to be upgraded, and third base as well if Bryant ends up in a corner outfield position.

Alcantara should be starting next opening day too, right?

I love the kid's effort so far, but he definitely has a ways to go in the "good at-bat" department.

He grounds out weakly on a bunch of first pitches, and his next at-bat that follows is always taking two perfect strikes down the middle, to "compensate."

He just needs to take a smart approach to each at bat and not let the previous results get in his head. I think he will make adjustments better than Lake has, but those adjustments are certainly required.

His starting spot will most likely depend on his ability to stick at CF. Because SS and 2B are not open.

Baez and Bryant should be up this season. No reason to go into next season trying to find out if they translate to the MLB level or not.

I believe Baez will be, and should be.

I don't think Bryant will be, or should be. Especially if you picture him in the outfield. Let him make that transition in AAA.

Given Soler's contract, I would not be surprised to see him be a September call up. Doesn't hurt the Cubs to do so.

Geez, all Schwarber does is hit and hit and hit some more.

Some of the pitching prospects are turning in decent seasons but a lot of busts too.
Duane Underwood and Jen-ho Tseng both sporting ERAs 2.50 and under for Kane County. Blackburn and Skulina are doing OK.
For the Smokies, Corey Black with a nifty 2.63 ERA, Pierce Johnson 3.35 and Dae Eun Rhee with a 3.27 but the cat is kinda old at 25.

Last year's 2nd Zastryznldhgi is blowing chunks and CJ Edwards was injured for half the season. Some rays of light here and there but everything appears to be in the lower minors.

My guy Jorge Soler:

BA OBP SLG OPS
.410/.500/.852/1.352

I think it's time we talk about AAA.

Keith Law has put out his mid-season farm system ranks over at ESPN.COM and he ranks the Cubs #1 overall...

Law says... "I know Cubs fans have heard this before, but just wait ’til next year, because this club is going to get good in a hurry, at least on the run-scoring side of the ledger."

I subscribe to BA, BP and Insider...i share some of what is said but feel cutting and pasting the entire article isn't fair to the sites . If yuo paid for it you know what it says if NOT you got a taste.

You're welcome.

This is all alleged and unreliable anyway:

Quote:
I know Cubs fans have heard this before, but just wait 'til next year, because this club is going to get good in a hurry, at least on the run-scoring side of the ledger. The system already had the minors' best collection of high-end bats, and it added several more during the past seven weeks, including the fourth-best prospect in the minors in shortstop Addison Russell, who came over with promising left fielder Billy McKinney in the Jeff Samardzija trade with the Athletics.

The Cubs also added catcher/left fielder Kyle Schwarber with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft. It's a pick I think was an overdraft in part due to doubts he will stick at either position, but he has raked so far in limited at-bats, mostly against younger competition. They used the savings on Schwarber's bonus to grab several high-upside high school arms later in the draft, including right-hander Dylan Cease, whose elbow ligament injury might require Tommy John surgery but who was seen as a top-15 pick talent before his injury. Cease has a fastball that can touch 100 mph and at times a plus breaking ball. The Cubs also have some promising hitters on their AZL club (rookie league) from their Latin American spending spree in 2013, including bonus babies Gleyber Torres (from Venezuela) and Eloy Jimenez (from the Dominican Republic), both just 17 years old.

These infusions have helped balance out a few disappointments in the system of players I ranked highly coming out of last year. Albert Almora has been a disappointment (.306 OBP in high Class A), continuing his record of awful walk rates in pro ball to date. C.J. Edwards and Pierce Johnson, their top two arms going into the season, both have missed substantial time with injuries; Edwards is still on the shelf, and Johnson hasn't been effective at Double-A when healthy. Jeimer Candelario, whose only tool was his bat, hasn't hit at two levels and is about to be buried by the wave of infield prospects ahead of him. Scott Frazier, their sixth-round pick last year, appears to have the yips, with 12 walks and four hit batsmen in 22 batters faced.

Most of the successful arms in the system this year have been pitchers at low-Class A Kane County, particularly undersized Taiwanese right-hander Tseng Jen-Ho and 2012 draftee Paul Blackburn, which means the Cubs probably won't get the starting pitching help they need from their system in the next year or two. Fortunately for them and their fans, they have the bats to trade to acquire pitching from outside the organization.

This has to be the most loaded the Cubs' farm has been in at least 30 years.

When was the cubs system ever "loaded"? 30 years ago was '84. What Joe Carter??

Maybe the early 60's with Santo, Williams et al
