Loved the Rockford files.
Neat gag where they had a different answering machine message on the opening credits each week.

Loved him in the Wyatt Earp movie from a few decades back. I got a kick seeing him and Jonathan Winters on the sidelines of Oakland Raider games. Not too long ago he had sued his studio for cheating him out of some "Rockford" money.

He seemed like a straight shooter and great guy:RIP

He was great in everything but The Rockford Files was great. I may have to see if those are on Netflix. I haven't seen any of those in over 20 years.

Yeah, me either. I don't remember much about the show except that Rockford lived in a camper, had connections to the criminal world through his coked-up transvestite friend Angel, benefited from access to the legal world through his overworked curmudgeonly police detective buddy Dennis, and never seemed to get paid for any of the cases he solved.

The thing that stands out most clearly in my hazy recollection of the Rockford Files is that it was my grandma's favorite show, so for me it's worth another look if for no other reason than that.

In my early fun driving days with the guys we christened a driving move a "Rockford" because that is where we all first saw it. He had the cool gold Firebird and seems to back up super fast a a lot and be able to spin around really fast and go forward without any pause. We spent a lot of time late night in mall lots or other places mastering the "Rockford". 8)

For me, it was the first series where I watched as the "hero" was not some all-knowing superbeing. He screwed up all the time. He was often hilariously frustrated in his attempts at pursuing the case. He was certainly a flawed hero unlike the other cop/detective shows of the era and he was excellent at portraying that.

Plus, he had a sweet Firebird and he also did his own driving stunts further showing how cool Garner was. Also, I thought Beth was hot at the time.

Garner was very likable. My mom loved this guy and watched anything he was in. I must have been forced to sit through Murphy's Romance about 100 times as a kid and consequently know just about all of the dialogue.
