Force Ricketts to sell.

Get a real owner.

And win.

I'm starting to get behind this "get good players" plan.

Part 1 was on this weekend. That movie came out 29 years ago and I think it was the first non animated movie I saw with my parents. I had a huge crush on MJF. Crazy to think the Cubs are still this bad 30 years later!

Javier Baez: 2-3 2BB, 2B

That's ZERO strikeouts. A continuation of the downwad spiral in this strikeout rates. Now around ~20% in July compared to ~35% in April and May.

Russell and Bryant are both sucking it up.

Baez' progress so far:

was at the iowa cubs game yesterday. Baez looked great at the plate, he absolutely crushed a 2-run double against the center field fence into the wind early in the game. he also threw a ball into the dugout trying to double someone off at first. bryant hit a ball 500 feet last night - straight up into the air. the bases were loaded with 2 out in the 8th and the left fielder was playing very deep. bryant hit a towering fly ball to left and the left fielder went all the way back to the warning track. the wind got it and blew that ball right back towards the infield. the left fielder sprinted all the way in and made a head first attempt at catching it in medium left and came up short. the bases cleared, bryant was on 2nd, and the box score shows a 3-rbi double. the box score can be just a little deceiving, that was the worst-plays fly ball i have seen in a long time.

that is a great place to see a game if you ever find yourself in Des Moines. Kris Bryant was very cool and signed a ball for my kid, as did Manny Ramirez who also was really friendly and seems to really be enjoying his time at Iowa. he was having a lot of fun during BP with the young players standing around the cage and also out shagging fly balls. he pinch-hit and stuck out looking on 3 pitches.

I could see some appeal in spending the summers just playing catch and talking to fans in the low-stress environment of the minors.

If you've got money to burn, seems like it would be a fun way to spend your summer.

The hell you say! It was a ringing double in the gap against a future hall of fame pitcher! The stat line never lies!

speaking of future hall of fame pitchers, the new orleans team started brad penny last night against the cubs and he got rocked. brad penny should consider calling it a day. it was kind of sad watching him get hammered around.

How many times have you ever been happy as hell to see Mike Olt listed on a lineup card?!?

Baez: 2-5 (.255), HR(17), 3RBI, 2K
Bryant: 1-4 (.311), SB(4)
Soler: 1-3 (.333), 2BB -Nice Debut

Olt went 2-5 so you have to be skeptical about the results above. To allow Olt to get 2 hits the pitching must really suck.
