A great day for Hockey today as Bill Wirtz has done us all a favor and DIES .

Does this open the door for MJH to start talking about the Blackhawks and having the Hawks home games on T.V. ? I will reserve judgement untill I see What Peter Wirtz does as the new owner.

A great day for Stink and Mac and true hockey fans of Chicago.

I called Jurko at 7:45 to inform him of Potter's passing. This is more a human interest story than a hockey story. A guy succumbs to cancer and 99 percent of the city rejoices. The other one percent worked for him or knew somebody who worked for him. Those he trusted under his employ, be they with the Blackhawks, Judge and Dolph Spirits, the Bismarck Hotel, etc., universally reported he was a generous and loyal man.

What's the over/under on when Harry asks "Will the funeral be televised?" Honk.

Great Take 5 list... five Chicago guys for whom the city would have little pity if tragedy befell them.

Wirtz

McCaskey

Reinsdorf

MacPhail

Gloopan Kuratz???

The big picture is that a human being has passed and I get that Mac and I understand he was a father, husband , Grandfather but the guy ruined a thing I loved and I cared about deeply and he owned a franchise that I pumped a lot of my hard earned money into over the years and I'll never get back the passion I once had for this team .

He was not a beloved figure in this town and I don't think people are dancing on his grave as much as they are happy that hockey might matter again in this town. I got about 10 phone calls this morning from buddies and said "Sorry he has passed but maybe hockey can move to the 4th page of the sports section finally".

Stu did that as I have no clue how to size avatars or put one up for that matter and after lunch with Chris (stu ) last week he said he found a really cool Hanson brothers avatar and he would put it up. So now Im stuck with that gay avatar. I'll get Grid to change it.

Don't get me wrong, Eddie. I NEVER will feign sorrow again the way I did one time in my life - show #2 in Bristol when Earnhart crashed. I hated the way he did business with the Hawks, too, and later today I'll call for the team to hold a news conference before he's in the ground, announcing all home games will be on television.

Depends if it's a "home or away" funeral.

There's a possibility that would be profitable for them. Maybe it was part of Dollar Bill's last request  .

Top five for me:
1) Hawk Harrelson
2) John Shoop
3) Bob Pulford
4) Phil Jackson
5) Jerry Reinsdorf

I don't stand the non-love for Jerry R.

The man is widely regarded as a great owener and his teams have one seven championships in two professional sports during our lifetimes.

Because I think he's pompous and arrogant. Give him the best players in the game and he can win a championship  .

For me, it's because I'm a Cubs fan, basketball is number four as far as favorite sports, and the way he held fans hostage in negotiating the new ballpark.

The guys at the Wolves have to be pretty remorseful, too. I'm seeing Skates at the funeral...

You could do some real cruel things for the show today Mac. Justin wouldn't aprove but you don't have to tell him before hand.

How about this Mac? Say you have exclusive tape of Wirtz on his death bed. Wirtz's last words right here on MJH.

In a faint whisper Bill calls his son Peter close to him. Peter puts his ear close to his Dad's mouth. Bill Wirtz's final rush to the net...

"Whatever yo do son don't put the damn home games on TV and quickly fix me one last drink."

Finji get on this.

I was punching radio buttons during my commute to work today & GN & Spike were doing the feign praise "thing". They were talking about the no local TV "thing" and how whether people liked his decision or not, he was a great man for sticking by his convictions and never wavering. My immediate thought was...so with this line of thinking, that makes a Hitler a great man too. Not a true comparison I know, but that is the thought I had when I listed to their reasoning. The guy lived a good & rich life. So...good riddance.

We can have the casket at center Ice at the U.C for viewing and every 20 minutes have the horn sound and have the pallbearers skate around with Dollar Bill's casket. Or just tie the coffin up to the back of the Zamboni and drag it around the ice during intermissions.
