An Alabama teen is being criticized for posting on Twitter a selfie taken at the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, according to the Washington Post. The photo, seen above, was posted to Twitter on June 20 by Breanna Mitchell and shows the teenager smiling. It was accompanied by the caption, 'selfie in the Auschwitz Concentration Camp,' and a smiley emoji. The image sparked massive Internet backlash with some going so far as to threaten Mitchell's life.

In the wake of the uproar, Mitchell has spoken out about the controversial photo, saying that she has no regrets and wouldn't do anything differently.

Mitchell, a recent high school graduate, traveled to Europe in June and visited the camp in Germany on the last day of her trip, the Washington Post reported.

Over the ensuing month, the tweet has amassed more than 4,000 retweets and 2,600 favorites, according to the New York Post. In response to the media attention after her initial tweet, Mitchell tweeted, 'Over 150 retweets. Turnnnnnn uppppppp' and 'I'm famous y'all.'

She's 18 (even though she looks 30) so this really shouldn't be a big deal. She isn't the first 18 year old to do something stupid and act as if nothing was wrong with it.

From what I read she seems like a smart kid that's really into history. She'll figure it out. Even if she does believe the selfie was a tribute to her father.

Probably not the best idea, but not this newsworthy. Who cares? How does this affect anyone else? Live and let live.
