The other day you lauded the Bears for having sense enough to not sign Grossman to an extension, yet you also said Lovie Smith's extension was fine. While I agree with you concerning Grossman, your finding of Smith's extension to be "fine" leaves me wondering if you suffered one concussion too many.

Is Smith stubborn, blind, or ignorant when it comes to his starters? Many of us were calling for Grossman's benching last year - yet Smith refused. He went so far as to refuse to warm Griese up during the Super Bowl, at a minimum to motivate Grossman to play better. Any criticism of Grossman was met with the usual response, "Rex is our quarterback."

He fails to make adjustments at halftime. Blindness, stubborness or ignorance - whatever it may be - Indianapolis, Carolina and Dallas have all taken advantage.

Much like the Cubs can not run the bases, field balls cleanly and execute the fundamentals, this Bears team can not block, tackle, catch, or hold on to the football. This might suggest something about Lovie's practices.

How many times have we seen Smith mismanage timeouts, or mismanage the clock?

He plays to lose the last game or two of the year. If he's trying to protect the team from injuries, this counters everything said about Greg Olsen's injury during a meaningless preseason game.

Jurko, Lovie Smith is a bad coach. You could have coached last year's team to the playoffs. Hell, Tienowitz could have coached that team to a winning record. That extension was a horrible idea, and it will cost the Bears dearly for years to come.

I'll agree that Lovie's a bad in game coach.
His clock management goofs put his team in terrible situations.
He should get punded for that 4th down time out in the Cowboys game that gave them the opportunity to go for it.

All the other duties of a NFL head coach he performs at a high level.

Since Lovie comes from a defensive background, I don't find it surprising that his decisions for the offensive side of the ball usually suck. I tend to think this would easily be solved by bringing in an offensive coordinator that can an NFL offense in totality rather than being under Lovie's thumb for everything. But based on last off-season's coaching changes by Lovie, I'm assuming that's not gonna happen. He's a micro-managing control-freak.

Lovie's a decent coach. His biggest flaw is lack of half time adjustments on either side of the ball. That just kills me.

I think you're right in this case. It was Walker now that I think about it.
It wasn't like that stupid time out last year where they thought Hester would get a return.
Anyway, getting the defense off the field in a punt situation would still fall under in-game coaching.

it's ron turner's job to call the plays. the problem isn't lovie when it comes to turnovers and protecting the quarterback.

the colts have probably the best offensive line in the NFL, and it makes an offensive coordinator's job much easier when there's pass protection and holes, and when you have an efficient offense.

a lot of coaches who are known for one thing win with the other. billick was supposed to be an offensive genius, but he won a superbowl with a great defense and an average offense.

The time-out before the END OF REGULATION gave the SEAHAWK another shot to throw the hail mary pass. This took place in the Divisional Playoffs.
