I certainly cannot envision Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, or Rafael Palmiero in the Hall of Fame without steroids. Others apparently agree.

During the off season Len was very confident that Edwin Jackson would be better because the numbers said so.

Not all the numbers. Here's a case of a guy's W/L record being a better predictor than his K/BB, etc.

We all know he couldn't have meant that steroids don't make you a good baseball player and you ahd to be agood at baseball and then use to be great. Nah, he couldnt have meant that.

Mike Lansings 20 HR season the traded to Rockie where he signed a 3 year, $15 M deal, was all because of the roids? No....he would have had a journeyman carrer probably without it, maybe would have made vet minimum. The juice made him really good and gets a contract offer, without the juice he is just a guy.

I don't know. Maybe if Ed Farmer says something like that, and you just "happen to flip the game on" at that point, you can start a thread about it.

Barry Bonds is a Hall of Famer. Roger Clemens is a Hall of Famer. I'd have to think about any others, but those guys are automatics.

Remember reading an SI article on Clemens in my youth where it described him pitching a game and after he was taken out, going on a 5 mile run through Boston. Even in my youth I doubted that but it did not seem to phase reporters

That Eric Walker guy worked for the A's. He developed many of the ideas that Billy Beane gets credit for.

I understand what he is saying. I also believe a juiced ball had more to do with the ridiculous numbers than drugs. But what the drugs did do was allow players to play into their 40s without any decline in performance and often better than they had when they were at what would have been their natural physical peak.

The Hall of Fame is largely based on the accumulation of numbers. There are some fine lines there. If a juiced ball is helping what would traditionally have been an 18-20 homer guy hit 35-40 and now he gets four or five more seasons at the end that guys like Mantle and Mays didn't have, well, 500 homers is suddenly a lot closer. I never once watched Rafael Palmeiro and thought, "Wow! That's a great player!"

Has anyone else gotten the feeling recently that Len and JD don't like each other very much? Recently there have been some awkward silences and seemingly uncomfortable responses to each other's dialogue. And I don't think it has to do with building a rapport because in past years I never noticed it. They seemed to broadcast well together before.
