Ex-TV anchor arrested for DUI


SAN DIEGO — Former San Diego TV news anchor Bree Walker was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Anaheim.

Walker, 61, of Venice, was pulled over near South Beach Boulevard and West Ball Road about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of running a red light, and officers allegedly smelled alcohol, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Walker was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and later released on a promise to appear in court, according to the newspaper, which also reported that her vehicle was impounded and a pit bull inside was turned over to animal control officers.

Police said she was unable to produce a driver’s license.

Walker worked as a reporter and anchor in three major U.S markets — San Diego, L.A. and New York City. She also became a disability activist, having been born with ectrodactyly, a rare genetic condition that caused her fingers and toes to be fused together.

Walker kept the condition hidden with a pair of glove-like prosthetic hands until she revealed it while at KGTV 10News in San Diego. She joined the station in 1980 as a consumer advocacy reporter and eventually became one half of San Diego first female anchor team on the 11 p.m. newscast, alongside Carol LeBeau.

Walker left San Diego for New York in 1987 and went to Los Angeles in 1988.
