Not really. He could win the WS this year or next year and it wont matter how many World Series MVP's Russell wins
So both the Cubs and A's have to win a World Series for it to be a win for both sides?

Does every trade and move become good if you win a World Series?

Except Lee for Podsednik.

That's an interesting question that is up for debate.

As of a few years ago, I believe ONE pitcher acquired during the season had ever won a World Series game.

But I expect Beane to trade Samardzija next year so you dont know what this ends up being

I don't see how this can be viewed as a win for both teams unless Beane puts a ring on it.

He gave up the future of his franchise for this year.

There's one more possibility. Russell and McKinney bust out and Beane trades Samardzija for a future All-Star(s). Straily is the forgotten guy in this deal. He might be better than Samardzija by himself.

Could someone brief me on Straily? I know of his decent season last year...was he a decent prospect before starting 27 games for the A's last season?

He's a strikeout machine.

And what if he trades Samardzija for another Russel type next year?

I thought the whole point was that Russel was so special that it was a major steal by the Cubs? You really think Beane can make someone else look even dumber?

I cant discuss what Bernstein or Joe Sheahan thinks.

Russell is a top 15 prospect

I know you want to set this up so that one of the Sox enemies (Theo and Beane) looks bad but nothing is as black and white like that. Especially since Samardzija might get traded again.

We'll see.

I wont answer for them as if I share their opinions though.

I think they're both crazy. What else is there to say?

I'm just laughing that pretty much everyone seems to be acting like Theo bamboozled Beane here. It has nothing to do with the Sox.

Deadline homestretch. Pieces available:

Valbuena
Coghlan
Ruggiano
Barney
Bonifacio
Villanueva
Wright
Russell
Strop
Jackson (a man can dream)
Schierholtz (year too late. dammit)
Sweeney

Valbuena is a good cost-controlled utility infielder. Don't see him moving unless blown away (Casey Blake for Carlos Santana in A). Bonifacio has August trade written all over him for cash or PTBNL. I'd like to keep Coghlan as a left 4th outfielder and he's cheap. I'm unattached to any of the other players. Might as well keep Schierholtz and see if he can bounce back next year as selling low provides nothing.

Barney and his Spiegel attitude needs to be the first guy to go.

I think Bonifacio is the only one that gets moved.

doubront goes to cubs @jonmorosi mentioned 1st

Quote:
Theo Epstein must still think he sees something in the lefthander he signed as an amateur free agent in 2005 out of Venezuela.

Doubront has had his moments as part of the Red Sox rotation; overall, though, he's been below-average, posting a career 4.32 ERA, 4.28 FIP and 1.476 WHIP in 98 appearances (69 starts) since 2010. He's been back and forth between the rotation and the bullpen this year (10 stars, seven relief appearances).

He'll turn 27 in October, which is still fairly young. (He's about eight months younger than Travis Wood, for whatever that's worth.) I'll dig out the old saw that "lefthanders sometimes mature later than righthanders," which, admittedly, isn't always backed up by numbers. But I'll say this and I don't think anyone here will contradict me: I'd much rather see Felix Doubront in the Cubs' rotation than Edwin Jackson.

We still don't know what the Cubs are sending to the Red Sox in exchange; I'll update this post when we find out.

Buyers baby!

Genius Theo with another stroke of brilliance.

Last year the dude went 11-6 W/L 4.32 ERA 162 IP in the AL East not mention snagged a win in the WS.

A MF-ing clinic being put on.

So they could sign a 38 year old Venezuelan journeyman?

a 38 year old World Series Champion Venezuelan journeyman. Need vets in the clubhouse who've been there before. Very astute move.

5:14pm: At present, the Giants, Orioles, and Reds are all in play for Bonifacio, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

4:50pm: Bonifacio has been told to be prepared for a deal today, tweets Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times.

5:48pm: The O’s are not in on Bonifacio, tweets Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, who hears that the versatile fielder could be returning to Kansas City. Needless to say, that would be an interesting turn of events: Bonifacio finished well last year with Kansas City, was tendered a contract, agreed to a salary to avoid arbitration, and was then released before the start of the season.

I have heard of FUZZY math but JORR takes the cake

Born: October 23, 1987 (age 26), Carabobo, Venezuela

8:12pm: It does not appear that the Giants are going to acquire Bonifacio, according to a tweet from Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle.

6:42pm: The Royals are not yet close to adding Bonifacio, tweets Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star.

This one is a real nail biter.

This is annoying. A's gave up Milone for Fuld? Seriously?

How could Theo and Hoyer not have offered Bonifacio to the A's for Milone? Milone to the Cubs would have been an excellent move.

Probably a metric that didn't fit with them or something.
