Really the only prospects who are affirmative choices at their positions are Almora and russell

Both Bryant and Schwarber played outfield in college.

Shifting a shortstop prospect to 2nd base is very common.

If you can play shortstop you can play any position on the field.

Are you saying you expect Alcantara, Bryant or Schwarber to be a poor defensive outfielder? And are you suggesting Baez has a go-to defensive position that the Cubs are moving him from?

uh. I prefer to keep my middle IF middle IF, and my corner IF my corner IF. However, anyone can play OF. LF and RF are more difficult but doable.

Isn't Soler supposed to be an above average outfielder?

This is the cub thinking as well. Enjoy the bad defense at the MLB level

Another cub mantra that I think is questionable

I certainly agree that ss should be considered a defense first position and is the most important fielding d position (I exclude c and p from fielding). I also agree that if you are a good ss you can be a good 2b or 3b. However if you are a good ss you are staying there until age takes you out. A bad ss does not translate to a good anything else

It's self evident his position, should he have proven himself capable, was ss. Same is true for the others. The most likely result is a gerrymandered defensive group who's MLB existence is justified only by their individual bats

"self evident" and "should he prove" in the same sentence, and linked together. How can it be "self evident" if he hasn't yet "shown himself capable"?! Ya nut job!

Baez' month of July: .300/.344/.655 10HR 7.27% BB-rate 26.36% SO-rate

That's very very nice. The BB and K rates still scare me though they've shown progression since April.

Straily: 6IP 0ER 5K

Encouraging but he's really sucked before last night.

CJ Edwards pitched decently this weekend as well.

Quote:
Almora burst onto the scene in 2013 with a solid campaign in the Midwest League, showing strong hitting ability and potential as a front-half-of-the-lineup type. At the forefront of the 20-year-old’s strengths are outstanding bat control, driven by innate hand-to-eye coordination and elite makeup. The outfielder has the type of loose hands to stay inside of the baseball and barrel up a lot of offerings. It’s not hard to envision a future gap-to-gap hitter who can develop some power as he learns to muscle up and take more chances with his swing. This season has shown that Almora needs to tighten up his strike zone. He’s an aggressive hitter. A positive sign is that the prospect has a knack for getting the bat on the ball. This isn’t a wild swinger with big holes. It’s more a case of slowing plate appearances down and learning more about himself as a hitter. The latter takes some time. Short-term resistance can often be the trigger for long-term growth. There’s a chance that Almora never gets it and never takes enough steps forward, but the makeup makes him a strong bet to show large gains over the next couple of seasons. —Chris Mellen

Olt is hitting .345 in the minors.

Keeps that up and there could be a pitcher on the way from some team that thinks they're smart.
