NIU is supposed to be announcing 4 home/home series with "bigger" teams this week #schedulepalooza
They even worked long and hard on a catchy name for the announcements #schedulepalooza
Some NIU fans are convinced that this means teams like Nebraska and Miami are heading to DeKalb

#schedulepalooza

The first announcement was yesterday (San Diego St.) and continues through Friday.

Realistically, I could see a team like BYU coming to DeKalb, and maybe some AAC teams. I'd be stunned if it were anybody "bigger".

Everything about NIU football makes me want to slit my wrists, and I don't even like NIU football. It's all so sad. "Schedulepalooza." Hashtag schedulepalooza.

You forgot "by a student from U of I" on the end of that one.

I can't even come up with a reason for optimism for Purdue. The best I can do is that I think the freshman qb they had last year has elite talent. I'm just not sure the rest of the team is able to let him show it.

They couldn't be much worse than they were last year though so that is nice.

The 2nd announced team for #schedulepalooza is, in fact, BYU in 2018/2020.
Actually a pretty good get for NIU in DeKalb. better than SD State.

Looks like the next team that they are announcing for a home-home series is Utah. That's another good get for a team in DeKalb.
The following teams are playing NIU in the next few years:

UNLV
Wyoming
San Diego St
BYU
Utah

I'm not smart, but I think I notice a trend......

Is NIU joining the Mountain West?

I'm surprised they were even able to get someone like Utah. Presumably, the final one will be even a bigger name. With a 9 game conference schedule, it is really hard to give up a home game unless it's another major conference team.

I am surprised also (it's not officially Utah, but all of the clues seem to add up to them).
I agree - presumably the final team announced would be the "biggest". But it can't be a HUGE team, so what's bigger? Getting a Big Ten team to come to DeKalb for the 1st time ever? (Indiana or Minnesota?)

It seems like they are angling for something like that, doesn't it?
BUT, let's just take a huge reach and say they do something like this:

1. Travel would be a nightmare, but I guess lots of teams face this problem now.
2. Many of these non-conf games would become part of their conf slate, and NIU would be scrambling to fill those dates at the last minute.

Seems like a huge stretch.

I guess it depends on how much money NIU is willing to lose. A Big Ten team would have to get a pretty big payday from them to do a home and home.

Minnesota is probably the only team that would do it based on the coach.

It does surprise me that NIU hasn't ever done a 3 for 1 to get a home game. Purdue did that a few times even when we were good.

They seem to prefer 4 for 0.

NIU would need to expand the stadium to get most of the power conf teams to come here. Offering a team 2k-3k tickets probably isn't gonna cut it outside of teams like Wake, Kansas, and Utah obviously.
I think stadium expansion/renovation is probably the more immediate desired outcome of this improved scheduling.

They do. In Arkansas so it's probably a day game with no TV coverage.

Why do you want to see more of Doc's cousins?

The final team announced for a home/home is Maryland.

Jim Delaney is probably having a mini stroke over this.

Caught some of the BTN's coverage of the coaches luncheon. Hazell is a goddamn buffoon. Brady Hoke looked bloated and sweaty. I heard Tim Beckman went to some kind of media/public relations crash course on the DIA's dime. He still sounds like a 4th grade widget football special teams coach.

I don't care where he recruits as long as he starts doing it better.

I'm just looking for actual reasons. His year one results indicate that he is but I was wondering if there is something that actually happened.
