Full disclosure: I do not remember a minute of the Heavy Fuel Crew since the 90s were a pretty crazy time for me.

However, nothing has been as good as MJH to me. Boers and Bernstein at the time were also pretty much at their peak, and towards the end of MJH I think B&B were better but MJH basically set the standard for me.

I don't think many will say anything, including B&B today, is as good today.

The "H" was horrible. The "M" and "J" couldn't make up for it to be the "Peak".

So...NO.

B&B before Terry went senile and Bernstein went "Full Bernstein" was the peak of Chicago sports radio.

Murph's two hour dealio was my favorite show. Crisp, efficient and just enough Murph. He would've been great to listen to daily the past 3 years with all the Cubs crap. I enjoy his Saturday show with Fred a lot. In fact, they're much better than M&H and would smoke them if ESPN didn't have to carry awful Mike&Mike.

I'll respectively disagree on Murph. His two hour show was an exercise in "I'm telling you I have no time to get to all my stuff" followed by two hours of what felt like the slowest radio on planet earth. It got to be pure agony to get thru to B&B. And I loved listening to Cubs talk...

LoHo isn't sports radio.

It's a cultural phenomenon.

I left Illinois for a few months in late 2000, came back and Huge and Lou were gone.
I didn't even know about WSCR.
I tune into AM 1000, and it was awful.
MJH was a daily lobotomy for the few days I listened.
McNeil is a prick, Jurko is a dumbass, and Harry....... well we all know.

Sometime in 2005 I started listening to 670, and I swear the first segement I heard
was Who you crappin".
I was hooked.
Dan was smart, and Terry made me laugh.
I stopped listening to sports talk radio about 3 years ago.
Too Tiresome.
But yeah, I had no idea who Dan McNeil was until I came back from Los Angeles all those years ago,
didn't like him then, and I sure as shit don't now.
And fuck Grimace. (Pretty sure I was the first to give him that moniker.....look it up).
If I'm listening to morning radio, it's Dennis Miller, or Jim Rome.
Otherwise I'm still asleep, because I got no schedule.

P.S. I miss John Williams.

HFC was always my favorite. The Score had a good edge back then.

It was the peak because B and B and MJH peaked at the same time.

Heavy Fuel was it for me also. Back then Boers cared a lot more about sports and McNeil appeared to be a happier guy on the air. I also used to like Chet Coppock though that is not popular especially with his not taking calls and all. But I felt like I learned about sports listening to his show. It was guest intensive but they had things to say and it was not exclusively Chicago. The problem with the local stuff is that they tend to beat a dead horse far too often. John Shoop is a terrible off. Coor. Lovie stinks Terry Bevington Murphy with the McFail talk. The non stop football talk as soon as July rolls around. McNeil was probably the worst with his countdown to Bears training camp crap. How many times can you hear a score tell you that a guy that probably won't make the is "looking good in camp". I'm a basketball fan primarily but I follow the other sports also. The football talk is overkill for me. The score has not had an NBA expert since the mid nineties and it became laughable when they attempted to pass Goff off as an expert. That merely highlighted the void. I also began to listen after watching Boers and McNeil repeatedly state that they were disinterested in sports. I don't watch sports in order to get updates on social issues. It's cool once in awhile but when you devote weeks to certain topics it becomes boring. What the score has spotlighted is the weakness in doing sports talk that is largely provincial. When local sports are down you have to make news out of the usually uninteresting. When local teams are not good you have to search for topics to discuss.

Boers and Bernstein from 2006-2011 was pretty damn good. I imagine that has to be the peak, though people who were there for the midday iteration say it was even better then.

B&B is a solid show.

But, it's never held the town the way North or Coppock did back in the day. Never close.

Coincidentally, Chet addressed this thread on saturday

Chet Coppock
August 2

Man, I miss the by gone days at the legendary "LOOP", the greatest radio station in Chicago history. Johnny B., Kev Head, Garry, myself, and of course, the Dahlster...the guy who opened the door for Howard Stern.

That was much better show. They had passion about doing a good show not just trying to do hate radio.
