For running the midday show in a somewhat less than ideal time in its history.

They may have said more but the fucking shit website decided it'd be cool to constantly run ads with sound you can't turn off over and above the stream so after reloading it three times to no avail CBS can go fuck themselves with a cucumber. It's funny, I come back after, what, a week or two after the whole rape culture bullshit and I can't even listen to the show because of their shit website that functions like it's 1998.

They're at the Rack House on Algonquin in Arlington Heights, which is about 5-10 minutes from my office. Has anyone ever been there? I have not, but am meeting a former co-worker there for lunch on Monday.

Rack House must be fairly new. That building has seen a few different businesses come and go. I think the only time I was in there was when it was a Home Run Inn.

If it was winter I would probably go (I don't live far). But Arlington beckons!

It used to be a Boston Blackie's (as pictured) and then I think it was an Asian place for a while. But, yeah, it's changed hands a few times just in the last several years.

We went there for my birthday last month (my GF bought my dinner, Racist Steve). Good food and really good tap selection. It's worth checking out.

Anti-Hero or Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp. Both solid selections.

Big beer list. I would be curious to know if they actually have them all or if they are out of half of them, as is the case in more than a few places I go to that have big beer lists.

I use this. Though you could be right, they haven't updated it in nine days...

They do realize that the reason it's a "less than ideal time" is because Spiegel is now running the show, right?

On an entirely unrelated note, mad props to Nero for being Emperor of Rome during a less than ideal time in it's history.

Weird shit if this is true.

"Thanks Matt for being unprofessional and uninteresting enough to not carry a show on your own. Thanks for trying to help us keep the ones that are left after Mac went home to decide what is best for him and his family."

Soooooo self-appreciative.

"Oh Matt I'm so sorry you had to show up a few days a week for literally HOURS at a time to talk on the radio for a combined 1.5 hours (after commercials) a day about sports and your band! And you did all of this without the guy who got you hired when you otherwise wouldn't have been! How did you do it?!

Spiegel was repeatedly crying about how he has radio VD, as he's been with 10 different co-hosts in the past two months. A couple of times he broke down with a "I just want a partner - I don't care who - just a partner, that's all". Yes, I can imagine how incredibly tough it must be coming in whenever you decide - if your cover band has a gig, just take the next day off. When you do come in, if you find it good form to do a taste test, on-air, for a segment or two - go ahead and do that. Real hero. Lord knows that 5 hour work day, when you DO show up for it, with a different guy in the chair next to you must be REALLY tough.

Bernstein getting mushy and really giving him credit was ridiculous -- I was waiting for him to announce that the proceeds from the 15 year party would now no longer being to kids with cancer, but rather to meatpants as he's been a real hero lately. "No one knows" how hard it really is to switch partners like that, but Dan's been in the business for years and appreciates just how tough it is.

Don't ask me why I tuned into to listen to Rozner and meatpants this am, but I did - and I am stunned that this is what's going on, midday, on "Chicago's #1 Sports Station". LOL

It should also be pointed out that even though Spiegel has been the only "permanent" host on middays for the past couple months, he isn't running a damn thing! He just sits back and lets whoever he has with him take over the show. Part of the reason the midday show sucks now is that it's a different show every damn week and sometimes multiple different shows a week. Today it was the Barry Rozner show, sometimes its the Grote show, or the Abbatacola show, but in every situation Uselesspants actively seeks out the sidekick role.

Everyone, let's take a moment to give adult Chunk from the Goonies credit for showing up 3 out of 5 days a week to sit back and listen to whatever part-timer or no-talent hack that Mitch scraped off the bottom of the Illinois Center for Broadcasting's shoe while they do his goddamned job for him.

It was legendary bad. The VD conversation was some of the worst radio this side of Harry Tinynutz.

Lil Danny taking sides against Mac because Mac deserves his show and the Lil one has never been able to hold his radio jock strap.

If you are the least bit interesting then your partner doesn't even matter.

Ask anyone that hosted with Rosenbloom for any length of time.

God willing, this is the beginning of the end of the NCAA, at least as it currently exists.

Yeah, I heard that driving home. I was almost there, but had to turn around and head to the hospital to treat the case of priapism the news induced.

baez is REAL. BIG. BOY. BASEBALL. yeah, he's gonna strike out. a lot. a metric shit-ton. yeah he's going to make mistakes (were YOU able to walk on water on your first try?) but this talent is LEGIT. REALLY. SMART. PEOPLE. have worked hard to usher in this era of cubs dominance and now with alcantara and baez up IT'S HERE. soler next. babe bryant next year. and then they'll go sign cliff lee and the top of the market starters because this team has been fated to spend HUGE $$$ (cuz don't forget the part of theo's plan where he spends 200mil+ to sign a 28-29 year old manny ramirez. this means that the cubs are fated to acquire/sign stanton)

and this is OFFICIAL CUBS BUSINESS because beerstain is always right. why do you think with baez he's hedged his bets ranging from 33-50% unmitigated suckfest all the way to "the first sign/omen that the inevitable WS championship is coming"??? it's because hes always right. so you go out and say that baez will have great moments surrounded by suck, therefore when you look back at his first 2-3 years in MLB come ~2017-18 you can say "AHA, BERNSTEIN TOLD ME THAT [he's overhyped shit or he's a perennial all-star that compels the rest of MLB to copy the cubs and tank hard for 5+ years to accrue high draft picks] IT'S LIKE HE'S FROM THE FUTURE!!!!!"

and, of course, i cant wait for when the cubs are contenders for the WS and their fanbase pipes up talking about how the 2005 white sox were a mercenary squad that got lucky (how many kids grew up looking at the back of baseball cards saying "IF ONLY THE WHITE SOX HAD CARL EVERETT THEY'D WIN THE DAMN WORLD SERIES!!!!" ??? .....exactly) and they were a bunch of anonymous rent-a-players who effectively met a pre-drunk 9 at the bar and got lucky when she decided that she wanted get laid that evening and the SUX just happened to be at the right place at the right time. meanwhile, the cubs spent 5+ years streamlining their aesthetics and tehir game so when they showed up at the bar that 9 immediately sobered up and said "OH MY GOD YOU'RE ONE OF THEO EPSTEIN'S BOYS! YOU ARE THE PLAN! IT WOULD BE AN HONOR FOR YOU TO GO SPELUNKING IN MY PROMISED LAND!!!!" and then every kid in chicago/land smiles because their parents had them rocking RIZZO/BAEZ/SOLER/BRYANT/RUSSELL jersey/shirts ever since potty training, and well, in 2005 the white sux won a world championship. in 2017-19 "WE" won back to back to back championships. that's the difference.

and when the cubs have established themselves as the golden standard of MLB that everyone prays they can emulate even halfway decently, that's when everyone will stop and reflect and think "this is just like dan beerstain told us it would be.... because he said the cubs prospects are going to be excellent unless they're not, and the team is going to contend for world championships every year except for those years where they don't.... this is just like he said it would go down!"

and in teh end, really, what is sports talk radio all about? in its infancy it claimed to be "the voice of the fans" backed up by fans calling up shows and getting their points across the airwaves.... but somewhere along the way the game changed from "we're broadcasting what you think" to "we're broadcasting to help you think correctly and not be a drooling [R-WORD] like everyone else who doesn't listen t our show" --- and really, isn't that teh way it's supposed to be? what better way to SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER than to speak the truth conveniently provided to you by the power? seriously, athletes come and go and are replaceable millionaire mercenary monkeys who can be replaced like *fingersnap* --- you know who can't be replaced? jerry reinsdorf, t-boogie ricketts, and of course the baseball messiah, theo epstein. so that's where you, the fan, need to truly appreciate the pain and suffering that sports franchise owners go through in order to selflessly provide YOU with the sports-based-entertainment that you need and love. sure you watch a bunch of athletes on the field actually playing the games, but they wouldn't be there on the field playing said games without the criminally underappreciated and oft-prejudiced-against owners there to pay them way too much money to play a child's game.

i thank god that dan bernstein is here to remind us of what's really important: giving these owners everything they want and thensome because see, when i read a good book i dont go and thank god for the author who wrote it.... i thank god for the guy who runs/owns the company that published the book, because while writing is all fine and good.... what good is writing if nobody can read what you write? the writers are NOTHING without the publishers because in the end you can find any jamoche out there to write a book.... but what you can't find lurking around every corner is a publisher who can put the book out there for mass consumption. we as a society have gone and romanticized/deified these "players" (and "writers" in the case of my comparison) as being the transcendental entertainment figures that we love to watch...... but that's at the expense of the hard-working owners who have to pay these shitbags way too much money and risk low-profitability in order to put out a product to entertain us. and as thanks we bitch about our rooftops and ticket prices and other things that seriously aim to undermine the very nature of sport at its core because what is good is sport to a society if the owners of sport franchises aren't allowed to profit by vast millions of dollars every year?

exactly. so i, for one, am glad that bernstein is here to give us the viewpoints of the truly oppressed in the world of sports: the owners. i need to hear that every move made is the right one, and when ticket prices are raised again on the back of a 68 win season that it's incumbent on me to either make/spend more $$$ or shut the fuck up because i'm not one of the GOOD. MONIED. PEOPLE. who you'll find sitting alongside mrs/douchebag in the 100 level of the united center. see, doctors and lawyers and accountants belong in the lower dish because they can afford to pay the premium prices because that keeps the riffraff contained to upstairs, where they belong. and if raising tickets up another $15-20/seat helps to eradicate more poor people from showing up and being poor/stupid/smelly/loud/yelling/bringing-peasant-diseases-to-the-public well then, it is what it is. owners do what they have to do because they have to make a few bucks to stay in business... its business 101. and if the sport has evolved beyond you and your budget.... ask yourself why do you suck and remember that without jerry reinsdorf and his ilk who own all the pro sports teams, there'd be no pro sports for you to enjoy. because in the end you're not going to watch a bunch of MILLIONAIRE MERCENARY MONKEYS go out there and wangwhip some unsuspecting white ppl in the name of affirmative action / reparations.... no, you're going out there to watch A JERRY REINSDORF PRODUCTION(TM) of the bestest and most cromulent cost-effectve players that weren't desired by the NBA's top 5 teams so they had to choose chicago over memphis.

and whether it's the cubs, the bears, the bulls, or the hawks... dan bernstein will be there to tell you how right the organ-i-zation is with everything it does, and why you should 100% support ownership on all issues/matters. everybody employed by a sports team can be replaced except for the owners because they are the job providers, and the rest of the employees are just leeches who want to suck off of the owners' teat in order to make a living for themselves and their dumbass families. ergo, everyone whose primary paycheck comes from the bulls should be 100% in lockstep with jerry reinsdorf because the burning question on all of our minds isn't "man, what would it be like to be michael jordan?" it's naturally "man, what would it be like to be michael jordan's boss?"

and until we as a society go from wrongfully idolizing sports stars to rightfully idolizing sports team owners, well, i reckon that dan will be out there fighting every single day in order to gentrify our hearts minds and souls in the hopes that someday before he rides off into the sunset (likely complaining about how the sun is in his eyes, no less) he will have done his part to help change the average sports fan from idolizing interchangeable millionaire mercenary monkeys to idolizing billionaire owners who fight the growing waves of malcontent from the peasants who are beyond jealous of the 1%.

and wow guys.... it's been awhile since i got a few in me and uncorked a proper sini post, so uhhhh enjoy it cuz im gonna go back to <1paragraph fare immedately after this. SHOMER SHABBOS! *POUNDS TABLE*

Awesome post, but Dan has been and will always be critical of the Wirtz/McDonough/Bowman Blackhawks management for things like associating with Bobby Hull, firing Susannah Collins, or not immediately knowing how to treat Patrick Kane's burgeoning alcoholism/coke addiction. Dan also doesn't fawn over their use of ANALYTICS~! and other advanced methods, even though Bowman has already strung together more success both in the draft and in the playoffs than any of these other Wizards of Oz in town can dream of. They're smart, but they're not Really Smart.
