ironic I watched this on "dead-spin" ? sorry. too soon?

Just heard Tony Stewart will not drive today. That's good!

My take is he thought he was going to "gun it" and throw dirt on / at the guy. I highly doubt he intended to hit him. I was a stewart fan from afar...but this is hard to look past. Accident or not....he made a bad move & a bad decision and a guy dies because of it.

The guy who dies was an idiot as well for getting out there and putting himself in that position....and stewart has done the same thing. It's all stupid !

CBSsports.com said that Stewart is not under a criminal investigation.

It would seem to be difficult to make a case against him considering that it's pretty well understood that guys aren't supposed to be walking around the middle of the track during a race.

A dozen other cars managed to miss him, including the blue/white car directly in front of Stewart's.

Uhh... yeah... it takes a pretty sick dude to want to go out there and compete the day after something like that happens.

I think even most diagnosed sociopaths would fake it and not race.

He is not racing today. A different driver is taking his place.

Stewart-Haas Racing, of which Stewart is a co-owner, released a statement early Sunday morning.

"A tragic accident took place last night during a sprint car race in which Tony Stewart was participating," the statement read. "Tony was unhurt, but a fellow competitor lost his life. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. We're still attempting to sort through all the details and we appreciate your understanding during this difficult time."

First, it's not an accident. Both parties engaged and shit got out of hand. Nothing accidental about it.

Second, gee, I'm glad to know Stewart is unhurt. I was worried when his race car struck and killed a person on foot that he somehow might have been injured. The unctous NASCAR PR machine never ceases to amaze.

Right. I'm just saying, it has to be a hard case to bring.

They're going to have to enact rules about drivers leaving their cars like that. Year suspension plus huge fine. Kid was a fucking idiot for doing that , Stewart and even bigger fuckbag . That was tough to watch.

They just showed the video on ESPN. No way that was intentional. That happened too fast for their to be intent.

Not making any excuse fro Stewart but if you have ever watched these sprint cars they always have their rear end swing out on turns. It is how they drive them. Not sure about this case though.

I've watched the video on deadspin over and over... I can't decide if I think it's intentional...

So sad for this kid and his family :(

Murder.

This happened while under a caution. Short of Kevin Ward launching himself into Stewart's car, Stewart is responsible.

It's roughly similar to someone in a car being an asswipe while passing a bicyclist on the street. Car buzzes bike, bike may or may not stray to the left and all of a sudden something really bad happens. Not intentional, but certainly not accidental either.

Thanks... terrible circumstances, but after seeing the story when I woke up then going straight to deadspin, this is where I wanted to be.

What does "under caution" mean? Does that basically tell all the drivers to slow down?

Because if it was an accident, then getting right back in a car may be the best way to deal with it psychologically.

It sounds like he wanted to race and NASCAR may have stepped in.

Slow down. Stop racing (no passing). Obstacles/hazards are on the track.

So are they gonna arrest this cracker or not?

Cuz it seems that everybody that knows racing is sure that he hit him on purpose.

Wow. This is incredibly sad. Stewart is in real trouble here. Vehicular homicide, jail time & being banned from NASCAR may be in his future. Listening to Ricky Craven now pretty much blaming Ward for getting out of his car.

He shouldn't have gotten out of his car and walked towards the cars. But I guess this is a common practice in racing. Maybe not anymore. I'm sure there will be new rules now. Still doesn't excuse the murder, though.
