But once again, Dan will also profess that he wants more raw materials in the pipeline because he likes to watch Millionaire Mercenary Monkeys beat the crap out of each other for his enjoyment. You cannot reconcile the two. No, we can't trust helmet vendors, but how can we trust you? As with so many other causes, Dan wants the credit without doing the work.

Sure you can. Your previous sentence explains exactly who he'd prefer the "raw materials" to be.

an odd position to push.... he loves football and loves the violence of it... has no problem if other people let their kids hurt themselves for his enjoyment

yet he uses his platform to decry those that make the game what it is and is in his own way spreading awareness about the long term effects of football

Dan's escape hatch is always that what's-her-name the CTE researcher is a "meatball Packer fan," though much like Dan's own hypocrisy, I see no reason why hers should be beyond reproach.

Doesn't his precious snowflake of a son play ice hockey?

Yeah I thought so.

That's the problem with Señor; his inability to see his own hypocrisy.

millionaire mercenary monkeys is so last week. now it's millionaire mercenary monkey manchildren. they have important lessons to learn from dan and mr. reinsdorf, the guys tasked with being charge of looking after them.

remember dan's dream isn't "what would it be like to be michael jordan?" it's "what would it be like to be m-jeff's boss?"

In the relative safety of the goal crease. I'm sure the deal was that he could play, but not as a skater.

Yeah, but I don't really think there are any mini Tomas Holmstroms in that league. As soon as there are, his hockey career is probably...on ice. YEAAAHHH

I enjoy the benefits of coal burning. I understand people knowingly die and contract debilitating illness in order for me to enjoy. I don't want my son to be a coal miner but I do know it is a well paying, union job.

The only real hypocrisy is that he seems to look down on others who choose to let their kids play football.

I have no problem wanting football to continue and for others to play it but also knowing that my hypothetical kid will never play a single minute of it.

As much as I hate B&B, their show made me reconsider allowing my son to play tackle football. I listened to the research and opinions objectively even though I was always a big proponent of football. In the end, I decided football was not worth the risk.

The thing that is most interesting to me though is that it seems like the sport is even less viable for adults to play. I am sure there are some kids running around with brain damage and physical ailments, but it seems like just about every professional player has been impacted in a very negative way. From guys with a noticeable limp to ex-players that kill themselves, I wonder if football can exist long term in our litigious society.

like the Chris Rock bit about Shaq being 'rich' versus the guy signing his checks being 'wealthy'. Berns may not have been laughing, though.

My cousin is head football coach at one of the Catholic League High schools ( I know your happy for me!)....aware of how things really are...questions parents are asking....his own young son already having suffered a concussion playing the game...said would not be the least bit surprised if within next 20 years...big guys will be gone and football will become 7 on 7 "drills" at the high school level with flags used instead of tackling.

After two years of tackle for my son, we moved him into a 5x5 flag league. We wanted him to get the exercise, and he loves playing. Unfortunately, flag football is not available in our area once they turn 12, so we couldn't do it this year.

Thus, he just plays baseball from the end of basketball season until basketball starts again. Fall ball is about to start.

Yes, kind of sad. The irony of it all is that their grandstanding on Penn State and concussions are the reasons I stopped listening to B&B. I still enjoy reading the show threads. Now we have a new phenomena, "predict Bernsie's reaction to X".

Or make the case that you simply aren't enjoying X the right way, how you shouldn't be surprised by X, or how you are failing to appreciate the greatness of X.

I have no use for Bernsie. The show is one of the bigger disappointments in Chicago sports radio history. Terry was a genuinely funny individual that decided a long time ago to be lazy. Bernsie is talented with his unique style and odd knowledge base. But he has chosen to play an insufferable SOB on the radio telling you what to think and why you're an idiot.

Doesn't his precious snowflake of a son play ice hockey?

Yeah I thought so.

That's the problem with Señor; his inability to see his own hypocrisy.

Lil' Danny has already thought this out! BTW if "snowflake" wanted to play soccer...he would have to wear a helmet.

joe madden ‏@jemadden1112 5h
@dan_bernstein im not sure how you can take this position when you allow your son to play hockey.

Dan Bernstein ‏@dan_bernstein 5h
@jemadden1112 As far as head-trauma correlation, goalie is the safest position on the ice and one of the safer in all sports. That's how.

joe madden ‏@jemadden1112 5h
@dan_bernstein so if he changed positions he would not be allowed to play?

Dan Bernstein ‏@dan_bernstein 5h
@jemadden1112 Not as the risks increase, no.

I do predict that Bernstein stops his kid from playing hockey before high school.

His brain is to valuable to waste.
