so you own a coffee shop spanky

you cool with that

in all of your examples you're trying to equate cops/firemen with other discounts given by saying it's basically an incentive for the person (cop or otherwise) to return to the business. the implication being that regular joe returns to spend more cash and that mr. cop returns and instills a feeling of peace and tranquility in your business.

what if i'm a business owner and i don't give a shit if the cop returns ? that he or she should just do their fucking job without getting preferential treatment ?

You are all over the place.

As a shop owner, you have the right to offer perks to whomever you want for whatever benefit you deem worthy. I've never said any different. In my examples, I am saying the comp is given as an incentive to BOTH PARTIES. Because it is. You're refusing to see the incentive on the part of the shop owner.

I'm not basing my viewpoint under the assumption that I KNOW what everybody else is thinking and why they are behaving. You seem to KNOW that every cop is a crooked person that would walk out of a shop without paying.

However, I do KNOW that many small business owners offer perks to many different people, including police.

I would not call myself a "regular". I buy most of my meat at the same place I buy most of my groceries. Occasionally, I will venture to a butcher shop. I'm all about efficiency - I'm not a BigFan of making multiple stops to buy food.

I would say you have as good a chance as I do at getting something free from him.

The issue is not with the offer. It's with the acceptance. I have no problem with teachers and deans getting free cole slaw. I do have a problem with my wife's divorce attorney offering the judge a free handjob before our pre-trial conference.

My guess is that the butcher felt sorry for spanky and considered it charity.

The whoosh is on you.

My point is (try reading slower, you'll get it): Many people get freebies all the time. For a variety of reasons. Because it benefits both parties to do so. The benefit may be smaller or larger, tangible or not, but it's there.

You can disagree with the reasons for offering the comp, but they do exist.

So then it's not a special perk. It's just something he does for everyone. He's a nice guy. That's alot different than offering something to a cop as an implied quid pro quo based upon the demands/expectations of the officer(s).

Ok. You're completely off topic now.

And you are really, really, really hung up on cole slaw.

well i guess we can never debate or discuss anything, because we can never know exactly what person A or B is truly thinking. nice cop out (rimshot)

are you actually trying to assert that cops (no not all so save it) don't go into places of business and expect free goods or services ?

I've never experienced that, but are you actually saying that people in other professions don't?

no, not really

How are you so sure that ONLY cops do this? Your understanding/experience of why police get comps at pizza places and coffee shops is way different than mine.

Why do they only stop at places that sell $2 items? Why don't they stroll into the car dealership and make the same demands?

In my experience, many cops do expect freebies or discounts for being cops

I cant pinpoint the argument here. Spanky saying freebies that benefit both parties is true, but it doesnt mean everything that falls under that umbrella is equal.

Some are wrong.

The guy throwing in a freebie to Citizen Spanky is trying to get a return customer. The guy throwing a freebie at Officer Steve is doing it out of appreciation/staying on the cops good side.

Does anyone disagree with that?

My brother in law is a cop.

He used to do security at Rizza dealerships when he was off duty.

So he falls asleep one night and wakes up as two guys are peeling out of the lot in a brand new Corvette. He gives chase and they lose control of the car and hit a house. Injured, but captured and the car is a total loss.

That was end the end of his discounts from Joe Rizza.

I worked with Joe Rizza's nephew

He always referred to him as "My Uncle Joe Rizza"

I mean the guy is a local celeb so I get that he was letting you know its the car dealer guy...but it sounded weird

The two things that bring all sides of the political spectrum together:

- Cops are entitled, ignorant douches.
- Same as the first, but substitute Scorehead for cops.

Pretty sure. Do you ever walk into a restaurant and say, "I'm Dean of Students"? I've never once walked into a place of business and said, "Hello, I'm JORR, salesman extraordinaire and general bullshit artist, what kind of discounts do you have for me?" But cops do that all the time and they expect something.

Hell, when I used to umpire softball games I watched my friend Ray Smith handle a game and call a jagoff out at home. The guy got up screaming and Ray threw him out of the game. The guy said, "I'm a cop." I really doubt he would have said, "I'm a cab driver" if that was his line of work.

By your logic, everywhere that you see cops eating pizza and drinking coffee, there is a disgruntled/angry business owner who feels like the cop just robbed him.

No - you disagree with what he's saying. You can't even keep it straight!
I'm saying it's a benefit to both sides - not that the cop is stealing from the business.

But that's a whole other conversation.

I don't understand why people feel cops are entitled to free goods and services. They have a salary and pension that we already pay for. And the "public servants" thing is bullshit. Do restaurants also give free food to street cleaners and sewer maintenance crews?
