They did thank loyal listeners who "get the bit". And to be fair, they weren't breaking arms patting themselves on the back...they were saying that they couldn't have imagined that doing a stupid radio show would lead to people coming up to them and telling them how much their show means to them. Whether that's just killing time at work or something bigger.

they were once a beacon in the wilderness, but those days are long gone. the show has gentrified itself into "helping people through" the big stories of the day, which is kind of against everything it seemed to stand for in the first place. that's why it was the beacon in the wilderness.

and then right before our very ears they turned from the beacon into the wilderness and from there it's been those "late catalogue" groans at the concert of life.
