Inspired by JORR's Terry Reid post.
Not to be pretentious or arcane, but just getting the tunes out to the people
who may not have ever heard them before.

The drums are just....wow, I wish I could play like that.

Tortoise is not my thing, but there's no doubt that Johnny Machine has been one of the most accomplished drummers in Chicago for about thirty years.

Here's my submission to this thread:

Ciccolina by Machines of Loving Grace isn't sad per se but interesting in a sad way. Of course I always mention Dance with the Devil by Immortal Technique but that is more sick than sad.

Jawbreaker, Kiss the Bottle a and Ashtray Monument are sad.

Psych Furs singer.
I love this song.
I saw Psych Furs at metro, and during "Heaven" when Butler did his spin thing,
like in the video, he reached down and grabbed my hand.
I will never forget that moment.

Where Are You Tonight - Bob Dylan. Hands down in my book the best Dylan song ever. Not a big Bob fan but this one is great.

Every year I listen to 3 songs on my moms death date.

Jimmy-Tool
Wings for Marie - Tool
Then She Did - Janes Addiction

The last was a song I listened to and 6 years after her death I finally cried over her. The other too have huge personal meanings lyrically over my mom.

i've made many mix tapes/cd's where these three songs round out the end:

Loreena McKennitt - Dante's Prayer

Tom Waits - Take It With Me

The Wallflowers - Up From Under

A lot of love for Mule Variations in this thread. To me, Waits' most beautiful album is Closing Time. Maybe partly because I was crazy in love with a girl named Rosie. When I was hanging out at the old Tuman's a lot before they modernized and ruined it, I liked to play "Lonely" on the old jukebox at closing time.

I don't know if they're beautiful, but I think they're purty:

Ride - Rolling Thunder

Handel - The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba

The Doors - Wishful Sinful

Hmmmm up the beach. Love it but I think Summertime Rolls is kinda great sappy high school college lust. More innocent love.

I might also take love street if I were to choose the doors but I can't chose a doors song in this category. Now Ride hmmmmmm.

What about Sugar "A Good Idea". For Bob maybe I'll Never Forget You is obviously more emotionally involved but not pretty.

2 more

Afghan Whigs "My Curse"

Kanye West " Blame Game"
