No. You see only the small picture.

Police and the black community in general have a long history. An unarmed man was killed by a police officer. No one has any idea whether his race played into the equation, but the reaction and perspectives absolutely have taken it into account. The black community feels as though the shooting was minimized and covered up more easily because it was a poor, black community. They have lots of historical reason to believe this. They also feel as though their peaceful protests were quelled because of their race and/or socioeconomic status.

Do you disagree with any of this analysis?

Well going for his gun doesn't mean he got his hands or fingers on it to leave prints. Im not being deliberately obtuse here but the town is 75% black. Wouldn't it stand to reason that blacks would make up the majority of the arrests, police encounters, tickets , harassment etc ?

I was on a job interview back in my job interviewing days, where the college had a rule: if you work for the college, you live in the town. I don't know how they could be allowed to enforce it (private school being allowed to make its own rules?) however, they did it to encourage town and gown relations (it did! From what I saw and have seen since, there is a positive relationship between the campus and community). I wonder if they had this rule for police officers (I KNOW it can never happen, but what about getting paid more if you live in town?) if that would help? Well, I know it would help, but it could never happen.

I did consider it but out of spite I didn't do it. I will incorporate it into the game plan but my purpose is not to write the best story ever told. It's a message board. I didn't know I was writing a master's thesis.

It's not just that town. It's the entire area that's blacks and other minorities. Ferguson isn't a place like Chicago where people are getting killed left and right. It's a lot of petty crime. Only 20 people have been killed in 15 years and Mike Brown was the first person murdered this year. By the numbers a higher percentage of whites are caught with drugs and weapons but the overwhelming majority of the stops are for blacks.

I don't think anyone can arbitrarily decide that you're not protesting correctly if you're not moving; it isn't a fucking parade.

I haven't seen one picture or video ... and we know how difficult it is to get imagery passed around these days ... of one single, solitary Molotov cocktail that was remotely in the vicinity of anyone and everyone that's been gassed or shot with less lethal weaponry.

Did anyone else see the video from this morning with the metrosexual mayor of the cosmopolitan city of Ferguson straight-faced saying there are no racial tensions or divides in "his" city? I mean, it was just like that fella way back when during the Iraq invasion who stood on TV and said everything's fine and the American's are nowhere nearby when in actuality they were roughly a block away or something.

I think we can all agree with the rush to lethal justice for Mike Brown and the call for time and careful consideration for the process for Officer whosits are not in any way a source of cognitive dissonance.

It's perfectly normal to unload a gun into a large black man charging at you ... didn't anyone see the opening scene from The Last Boyscout? Assuming he was charging at the guy.

Would love to see some APCs and folks with glassed-up rifles waltz through some local streets and threaten the ease with which some local citizens can get their Jimmy John's fix; I mean, just stay home.
