Using this thread as the example, I am proud to be closed minded and not think like some in this thread.

Hmm...I actually believe I am somewhat open minded...dozens of circumstances I've done a 180 from my position from this board ...I am aware that there are posters on this board more educated n more plugged in than myself ...facebook n Twitter is just one of em.

Parts of the west and southwest are suffering through their worst drought in decades. Lake Mead is extremely low, to the point where Las Vegas could run out of drinking water in three years. Seems awfully wasteful.

I'm waiting for the boiling cauldron of oil challenge.

If they are having a drought then the lawn definitely needs watering. That is what makes it a drought.

Yeah. That is why it isn't a big deal that there are people pouring a gallon of water on their heads.

:?: So because Las Vegas and California have water issues, we shouldn't 'waste' water by watering lawns or gardens, washing cars, playing golf (unless you like to play on dry, brown surfaces), filling pools, or this ALS Challenge even though we have billions of gallons of freshwater at our disposal?

alright, well this went crazy quickly...I'll play along.

Let's all empty a bucket full of garbage in the middle of the nearest intersection by our homes and call it the "Dump for Prostate Cancer"

and stop washing your car.

If it literally rained garbage every so often then this would be fine.

On top of everything else, the cyberbullying if you even hint you are against it is amazing.
My wife posted this:

You would have thought she made a video of killing puppies by the response of some.

Love the passive-aggressive smiley face!

She has also been tagged in three different posts of the video explaining the origin story and two other stories about how the challenge has raised a lot of money.
Neither of which were her point. Her point was that raising awareness isn't as useful as just donating time/money.

Incorrect in this case

Cmon it's fun is not cyberbullying is it?

Why not just ignore it or opt not to participate

Finally, and this isnt about Corys wife specifically but if youre posting your issues with charity on socisl networks you are attention whoring (look at me I GET it) from another angle

The Cyberbullying part isn't being challenged but rather if you have a dissenting opinion then you get people commenting/pming about it.

You are right, if you are posting anything on social networks, you are attention whoring. She also understands that she is rather sensitive about this because we do charity work with RMH and Alex's Lemonade Stand (obviously, charities that are rather near our heart) and when she posts a link on facebook about it, she's lucky if she gets $100. She jokes that next year she will do a lemonade challenge or some other shit like that because apparently people want to post videos of themselves dumping lemonade on themselves or chugging a pitcher of it.
