Bryant hit his 40th HR of the year tonight. It's criminal to leave him in AAA.

He may match Baez's AAA numbers soon.

I think Bryant may get the September call up. I do not know how they could possibly justify keeping him in Iowa until end of June next year just to avoid "super 2" status. The guy has destroyed every minor league level.

Keeping him in the minors his for his first pro seasaon is not THAT crazy

I dont think they'll hold him out longer than May 10th next year

Then what is the point of not getting the September call-up? Same difference contract-wise as May 10th.

If Cubs recall him within 20 days, they will not burn his last option. Expect him back in September.

I do expect him back.

But the Cubs shouldn't be counting on him. He isn't an important piece. I don't care about his options. He doesn't have the tools to help you off the bench, and he isn't a starter. He doesn't play good defense and he doesn't get on base. A pinch hitting strikeout is most unhelpful.

Since returning to AA from the calf injury, Pierce Johnson has posted a 1.27 ERA over 49.2 innings, with 56 strikeouts and 22 walks, and holding opposing batters to a .527 OPS. It is possible that he’ll factor into the big team’s plans by midseason 2015.

Baseball prospectus and fangaphs both write he has a #3 ceiling with #4 realistic role.

Cubs are going to have one of the largest collections of 4th and 5th starters I remember in short lifetime as a Cubs fan.

Russell: 2-5, 2B, HR(GS), 5RBI
Edwards: 5IP 0ER 2BB 7K
Almora: 1-5, 2B

Shwarber:
Game 1: 2-4, 2B, HR
Game 2: 2-4, 2 1B

McKinney:
Game 1: 1-3, 1B, BB
Game 2: 1-3, 2B

McKinney has been a snake in the grass. The kid is batting .314/.400/.845 with 34 RBI in 40 games. Schwarber has kicked his ass in to gear and batting .278/.394/.847

Woo boy.

What's the deal with Johnson only going 4 and 4 1/3 last two starts?

Time to move him to AAA maybe

Pitch Count limit of approx. 90.

He has thrown between 83 and 89 pitches in each of his last 3 starts, and less in the start before that.

That Samardzija trade is the one that will save the Epstein group in the end.

You should call it the Samardzija-Hammel trade though because Samardzija alone wouldnt have gotten that haul

The Cashner trade, The Feldman trade, The Garza trade, The dempster trade all playing a role

He got uncharacteristically desperate.

I think he saw this as his legacy, which I think shows that he understands the post Moneyball accolades are overstated.

Hammel's value in that group is very difficult to judge. Would he have warranted McKinney? I don't know but I tend to think not. I put his value as Straily. Still, even at the time of the trade Russell and McKinney seemed like a lot to pay for Samardzija

In what?

Rizzo, Arrieta, Ramirez, Hendricks have all performed at an All star level this year

But ya know what, until you're ready to admit the Rizzo is better than Cashner, Im suspending you from all baseball talk with me. #YouMadeMeDoThis

I see you've dropped your foolish inclusion that I was wrong on Shark. Good call.

Ramirez has been babied more than Anne Maxfield's teenage son.

The brilliant Jacob Turner trade understandably will steal all the headlines once he struts #2 stuff next year. But the sneaky Felix Doubront trade is the one that'll make the rest of MLB jealous once he gets his 2nd world series win next year.
